I groan and stretch my body, a buzzing sound waking me up. I reluctantly open my eyes, squinting against the light that's coming through my curtains. That's my phone buzzing. I roll over and grab it with a huff, looking to see who messaged me.

From: Mom

Hey, can't take u to appt today. Sorry

I send a quick text to Caroline, not wanting to go to the appointment alone and wanting to check on her as well.

From: Me

Hey, can you do me a favor? Take me to doctor appt?

From: Caroline

Absolutely!

I take a deep breath and sit up, stretching my arms and rolling my neck. I stayed up way too late last night. I fling my legs out of the bed and go to my dresser, finding some sweatpants to throw on. It's very early, just before Elena and Stefan are supposed to meet to talk about vampire things. I guess it's time to have the talk with her. I pull the two daggers out from under my pillow, the ones I made recently that were infused with vervain. I rub the sleep out of my eyes and leave my room, going to the one right next to mine and knocking on the door.

Elena faintly calls for me to come in, and I brace myself for how this conversation might go. I push open the door and close it softly behind me, not wanting to wake anyone else. Elena looks up at me from her bed, still under the covers. "What's up, Kara?" Her voice is groggy, as I'm sure mine is going to be when I open my mouth.

Speaking of, how to go about this? Yeah, I'll just outright say it. I clamber onto the bed next to her, handing her her teddy bear so I don't crush him. "So, I heard you found out that Stefan and Damon are vampires." Elena stills next to me, eyebrows rising so high I think they might disappear into her hairline.

"You know?" Her voice rises an octave. I grimace and lean my head back against the pillow. This is too early in the morning for this, but I'd rather get it over with so I don't have to worry about it for the rest of the day.

"Yeah, I've known since the night Mr. Tanner died. How're you doing with it?" I roll my head over to look at her, at her shock and anger She pushes her hand through her hair and gets out of the bed, going over to her own dresser to pick out her clothes for the day.

She grabs a red t-shirt, looking at it for a second before turning back around. "I don't know. I have so many questions, I just..." She huffs and plays with the necklace on her neck. The one Stefan gave her with vervain in it. I stand up and scratch at the bridge of my nose, trying to figure out if I should treat her delicately or not.

"So then write down all the questions. If you can, text me the answers you get to some of them. Because I know a lot, but I know I don't know everything." I get up to her as she tries to figure out which version of dark wash jeans to wear. "In the meantime, it would mean a lot to me if you kept this on you at all times." I had over one of the daggers carefully, watching as she raises her eyebrows again and grabs it softly.

"It has vervain in it. Dangerous to vampires, means they can't mind control you. Keep it on you."

She sighs and sets it down on the bed next to her. "I appreciate that, but I don't think Stefan would hurt me." I begin to tap the brilliant song Duel of the Fates against her bedpost, nodding in response to her statement.

"I have a hunch that Damon wouldn't hurt you, but since he already hurt me, I think you should take it. Besides, someone turned Stefan and Damon, right? They weren't born vampires. So there are others out there. Keep the dagger, keep it on you. And tell me what you find out." I move over to her and put my arm over her shoulder as she sighs deeply, looking even more troubled after what I had just said. "Most importantly, you're not alone. We're in this together."
