Chapter Seventeen

Margot

MARTIN STEPPED BACK, realizing the gravity of Margot's words. He knew Lukas Dela Vega was not someone to be messed with, but he also knew he had to pay off his debts somehow. "I'm sorry, Margot," he said, his voice low.

"I just thought we could work together and get out of this mess. I didn't want to involve you, but I don't have anyone else to turn to."

"You're fucking crazy! I wouldn't be in this mess if you weren't so ambitious with your desired things! Why, of all people, do you have to be entangled with these kinds of monsters!" she shouted angrily.

Martin and Margot stared at each other for a few seconds. "Do you know what Paco Manolo wants to do to me?" Margot said, her voice threatening.

"I'm listening," Martin replied, his voice hesitant.

"He wants to make me his sex slave," Margot replied, staring straight at Martin. "He wants to make me his sex toy, Martin. Do you know how painful that is for me? I didn't ask for this, I didn't ask for any of this!"

"Hold on, Margot," Martin said, his grin fading. "Deep down, I know you get excited when Paco Manolo and Lukas Dela Vega dream of you."

That was Margot's last straw. She slapped Martin hard, wishing he would die right there and then.

Ang kapal ng mukha nitong lalaki na 'to! He didn't know how difficult it was for her to live with Lukas and endure all that he did. All the intimidation and the shame that came from submitting to someone and accepting the reality that she was just collateral damage in this sick game between Lukas and his brother.

Margot felt hopeless and sick with his relationship with his brother. It's just irreparable. She and Martin won't have anything normal between them. Her face was filled with anger. Why should she feel guilty if Lukas were to kill him? When he's the reason for all the troubles they've been experiencing.

"Margot, please wait!" Martin called out, trying to stop her from leaving. She finally stopped and faced her brother. "What do you want, Martin?" she choked out, her voice filled with bitterness and anger. "Leave me alone. Don't mess things up with Lukas. You won't be able to handle the consequences."

"I'm sorry," Martin finally said.

She shook her head. "Sorry won't be enough for all of this. Sorry isn't enough, Martin. If you truly are sorry, then stop adding more problems and stop complicating things!"

Martin attempted to reach out to her, but she pulled away, avoiding his touch. It seemed that her resistance was starting to irritate him. Meanwhile, Laurent's bodyguards remained by her side, watching the situation unfold.

Martin finally left her alone and backed off without saying much. Whatever happens from this point on is no longer his concern. She was simply done with him. Enough is enough! This is just too much already.

She arrived home and saw Lukas. They ate dinner together in silence. Her mind was still preoccupied with Martin, but Lukas didn't dare to ask questions. She appreciated the silence, and in the middle of the meal, she couldn't hold back her tears and broke down. Still, Lukas didn't inquire about anything.

Lukas

MARGOT WAS BESIDE HIM, and he desperately wanted to ask her questions, but what the hell could he say? He was also conflicted about scolding her for keeping things to herself and not talking. However, perhaps Margot also considered that since his men were there, she didn't need to speak up.

Ramdam ni Lukas yung burden na hindi sila nag-uusap pero sobrang bigat. Pero mukhang mas mabuti na nga lang 'to.  He had heard from his men that the motherfucker Martin Ledesma had finally shown himself, but he didn't know the rest. He gritted his teeth in anger. He wrapped his arms around Margot, pulling her into a gentle embrace. She softened and hugged him back.

"It feels so good," she mumbled, her voice barely audible. She felt so small in his embrace. At that particular moment, words seemed useless. Mas niyakap ni Lukas si Margot para ipakita na gusto niya lang imaging nandun para sa babae. God, Mendez would laugh his ass off if he saw him like this with Margot. She had truly made him this soft and gentle. She clung to him harder, seeking security. He may have been terrible at expressing himself, but he would try.

He would try to show that he cared. And that he could provide her with security and affection. He would try.

Maraming minute ang lumipas parang nabuo na lang ang sarili nilang mundo. Truly, a hug can provide solace when people are ensnared in loneliness. Sometimes, one embrace is all that is needed. Perhaps that is how humans express the need for connection. We need people in our lives.

Lukas lived with numerous issues rooted in childhood trauma. There were times when his mother's face would flash in his mind—the image of her bloody demise by her own hand. Growing up with such memories would break a person in countless ways. These situations with Margot are only driving him to break free and yearn for better things.

"I have so many things I want to say. I'm sorry for what I did," Lukas finally spoke, his voice filled with sincerity. "I don't know what to say either. I'm just here."

Margot released her embrace and looked into his eyes, communicating more than words. "Will you kill me?"

He shook his head. "No, God, no."

He felt extreme embarrassment. They didn't start off on good terms, and things didn't come easily for them. He was too ashamed to admit his feelings, while Margot was naïve about certain things. He was determined to show strength and toughness, afraid to be seen as weak. Call it defense or whatever.

"Will you kill...Martin?" she asked, choking on her words.

"No. If that's what you want. No, I won't." He sighed and embraced her again.

Margot simply hugged him once more. Lukas could sense that the woman was still worried about that despicable person. Well, maybe that's just how family works. You get angry with each other. You come together and be kind again. No matter how much you curse them, you still wouldn't have the courage to accept their death or wish for their end.

The next words from Margot only made him more determined to hope for something good.

"I would like to have a boring life, Lukas. If you want to keep me...just give me a stable and uneventful life."

Maybe this is what his mom wanted too. I guess he somehow understands it now...a life away from blood and witnessing your own death unfold before your eyes.
