Tobias' pov

We get to Factionless and we're greeted by Evelyn and a girl that looks a few years younger than me. She looks a lot like Evelyn though. Enough to be her daughter but still off.

"Hello Tobias." She says happily.

"Evelyn we're here on emergency notice don't try to work your way up to me. I don't want your fake affection." I reply coldly.

"Fine. But who are these people? I only recognize you and for all I know these girls could murder all of the Factionless population." She says in a much more serious tone than before.

I cannot believe she can't tell her niece is here. Unbelievable.

"I'm Mackenzie. Doesn't that ring a bell?" Says Mak slightly annoyed. Evelyn just stands there confused. "How about I say the first part of my quote? The light is seen in most—"

"But the dark is seen in all. I couldn't recognize you after all the years. But you still have some of your childlike features." Evelyn interrupts. I move towards Tris and wrap my arms around her from the back.

I can tell she needs the embrace. She seems too tense and I doubt she's going to want to speak about it. Most people want to be seen as strong, that's the one time Tris fits in with everyone else. Not many want to look weak or vulnerable unless you want pity.

"Anyway", says Caroline, breaking the tension," Who's she?"

I don't think I've ever agreed with that girl more than I do right now. That girl has been giving me a weird look this whole time and it's kind of freaking me out. Keep in mind that not a lot of things freak me out.

"I'm Taylor, your younger sister. I was born 2 years before Mom moved in and situated herself in the Factionless sector of the city. Come with me on a walk, we have some catching up to do." She says. I step away from Tris and go towards my sister. Or half sister. If what she she says is true, then Evelyn had some fun with another Factionless. Goddamn her. I know this is true because no Abnegation man is worse than my "father".

"Fine." I mutter.

I take a minute to study her features. Straight, light brown hair with bright, neon blue locks surrounding the natural color. She must work with the hair dye department. By law, they are allowed to save 1/16 of items they make. That's one of the main reasons as to why they have clothing. And food. As in they'd be dead without that law. But she has noticeable navy blue eyes. You could see them from a mile away.

"So how old are you Tobias?" She asks smiling. I return the favor and smile imeback. It isn't her fault we haven't met before. I should at least give her a good first impression.

"I'm 23 going on 24. My birthday is in a month. How old are you, Taylor? 19?" I reply. She laughs a little bit on the last part, looks down, and blushes.

"Close. 17 years. I think that Mom's happy I can't ever leave her for another faction. Either way, it's a year too late."

"Hmm, you seem a lot more mature than a 17 year old girl. But I guess living in Dauntless makes almost every faction look more mature. But, why didn't you go to the Abnegation to let you join a faction and separate from Evelyn?" Seriously, I would've done that. I can't stand her.

"Well, for one thing, you could call her Mom. I bet she would like that, and two, I couldn't because I had a job and Mom would monitor me all the time. I was under watch 24/7. You don't know how bad that is, do you?" She sighs.

"I do know what it's like to have no freedom. It's called living under the same roof as Marcus Eaton and I know what it's like being watched all the time. I work in the surveillance room at Dauntless. I can see what people are doing in Erudite or even Amity because I work with the people who see everything. I know that sounds pretty stalkerish but it's true. And I'm 100 percent sure you know why I won't call Evelyn 'Mom'."
