"How hungry are you, Minho?" Felix's mom asked, "should we hit the wandmaker on the way or come back?"
Minho, who looked surprised at being offered his opinion, shrugged. "I'm not that hungry."
"Alright, we'll stop at Ollivander's for wands first!" Yana declared.
"Don't we have wands at home?" Felix asked as they walked down the bustling street of Diagon Alley.
"Yes, of course," Yana smiled at him, "But you'll need a wand from the best of the best for your first day at Hogwarts."
Felix was worried about the money his mom would have to spend, but his yearning for a new wand overpowered his guilt.
Ollivander's shop was small, but the outside was clean, with a pale green roof and shutters. When Yana opened the door, a small bell let out a ding. The inside was much less organized, with thin boxes in stacks and covering every available surface. A wooden desk stood in the center of the clutter, a small chair in front of it. "You go ahead first," Yana said, ushering Minho to the chair.
Minho sat down, looking unsure.
There was sounds of boxes falling from the back, then a little man came hurrying out from behind a tower of boxes. He was an ancient old man with large watery silver eyes. "So sorry about the mess, a difficult customer before you, very difficult," he said cheerfully. His eyes landed on first Minho, then Felix, then Yana. "Ah, Kim Yana! I remember your wand, of course. 11 inches, Ebony with a core of Unicorn hair. Surprisingly whippy, and a good affiliation towards Transfiguration. Very sorry to hear it was broken."
Yana gave a slight bow, "it was a wonderful wand. These are my sons, Lee Minho and Lee Felix."
"Ah, of course!" The excitement in his large eyes unnerved Felix as he looked from him to his brother.
He turned back to Minho, rubbing his hands together. "Alright, alright," he handed him a wand seemingly at random from the boxes, and Minho took it.
"Wave it, wave it," Ollivander commanded, but snatched it out of Minho's hands before he had moved it and inch. "I thought not, I thought not. Try this one; Oak, dragon Heartstring, rather bendy."
Minho waved it, and this time Ollivander watched carefully, but nothing happened. Felix was starting to grow sceptical, but Ollivander pulled out another wand, shoving it into Minho's hands. "Hawthorn with Dragon Heartstring, reasonably springy, 12 inches exactly."
This time when Minho waved the wand, green sparks shot out the end. Ollivander clapped, ushering Minho out of his seat. "Hawthorn, particularly suited to curses and healing, a very powerful choice," he laughed a wheezy laugh, "well, I say choice, but the wand chooses the wizard."
Felix stepped forward to sit on the chair, curious now. Ollivander studied him for a moment, then nodded three times, "Yes, yes, and easy customer I believe. Try this; Laurel, 12 and a half inches, springy with Phoenix feather."
