Chapter 6

Music was playing in the living room, not too loud to annoy the neighbors but not too low so Gorou wouldn't enjoy it. Sitting a little too close to the TV, his face almost pressed again the screen, he looked with sparkling eyes at the live performance of the top idol group of the moment, B Komachi. His head wrapped with the fan club's headband and both his hands armed with lightsticks associated with Ai, Gorou excitedly agitated his arms following the choreography and singing the fan chant.

Hoshizora who was sitting at the table by the open kitchen tried as much as she could to focus on her work. She was checking the inventory and the profit made by the grocery store she inherited from her grandmother. However, it was quite a difficult task when music was blasting while her boyfriend was ardently singing along. She would have left to work in an office, however, the house was not equipped with one. The bedroom would have been a great idea as well but they had no desk, and she knew she would not be able to focus well on the bed. Her mind would drift away towards disinterest and laziness easier. Besides, the bedroom was close to the living so she would still be able to hear the song. Either way, she was doomed.

"She's so incredible!" Gorou exclaimed vigorously. "Phenomenal! Ground-breaking! To be so talented at such a young age, my God! Ai is gonna go far, you'll see! She's going to rise as one of the most popular idols our country has ever known! Ahhh, if only B Komachi could go on a tour and perform in this hell-hole, alas... No! I shouldn't lose hope! One day I shall attend a B Komachi concert and show my utmost support to the greatest idol that is Ai- ouch!"

Gorou rubbed his shoulder when he felt a thin object hitting him. Looking down, he noticed a pen rolling on the floor, and gazing up, his eyes met with the narrowed ones of his girlfriend. He knew that, when Hoshizora was looking at him with such blazing irritation, it meant no good for him.

"I get it, you're Ai's biggest fan, now cut it off! You've been boasting about it for an hour already! I'm trying to go work here!"

Eyebrows still furrowed, she grabbed another pen and began (at least she tried) to count the profit she had made this month whilst Gorou, a bothered pout on his lips, focused back on the TV. However, his ears perked and his heart dropped when he heard his beloved muttered to herself: "It's like you love her more than me..."

At once, his head snapped at her and he almost shouted with force: "That's bullshit!"

Hoshizora was startled when she heard his sudden outburst. Gazing back at him, she found herself surprised to see the burning resolution and utmost seriousness in his eyes. She blinked at him, still astounded, as he removed his headband, put his lightstick away, and kneeled beside her. With the greatest gentleness, he took her hands in his.

"My love for Ai is nothing like my love for you. It will never be as deep and as strong! It'll never go near it!" He declared. All Hoshizora could do was stare at him as his gaze soften the more he looked at her. Hoshizora knew that Gorou was a huge fan of B Komachi and she did not mind at all. After all, she, too, was a fan of B Komachi and it was one of the many topics around which they had bonded when they first met four years prior. "My love for Ai is just admiration from a fan of the idol he supports. My love for you, on the other hand, is a sweet yet intense passion and devotion from a man madly enthralled by the woman he adores so dearly,"

Hoshizora's visage quickly took a beautiful shade of red as he uttered these words, looking straight at her with the utmost adoration and love. She could feel her entire body heating up and her heart missing several beats as his words slowly sank into her mind. She used to hear Gorou say that he loved her and each time, it would render her all flustered. But there were also times in which his confession would feel different. There were times when he would declare his love for her in such a bare, honest, and pristine way that it felt like he was devoting himself, in body, in heart, and in the soul, entirely to her.
