 The man's eyes were scarlet

The man's eyes were scarlet. Despite the darkness that shrouded them, she could still see the insidious glimmer of his eyes, his pupils narrowed with suspicion and amusement.

[Y/N] stared up at the figure before her, unwavering in her resolve. She could sense the imminent threat this man posed against her and was aware that if he desired, he could strike her down whenever he wanted. After all, it wouldn't make sense to send a weakling to a seemingly isolated planet to retrieve a Stellaron there was absolutely no information on. Even though she possessed far more strength and survival skills than the average soldier, [Y/N] didn't want to pick fights she couldn't win.

"Why should I believe you?" the man inquired, his expression a mocking sneer. "Humans lie as easily as they breathe.

"Fine, let's say you kill me right now," she shrugged her shoulders, "what good does that do for you? Are you really willing to just assume that I'm lying even at the cost of your access to the Stellaron?"

The man's glare deepened, the ferocity within its depths growing even more intense than it previously had been. "Hoh? How interesting, to not back away in the face of death." She felt a blade being pointed at her, the tip resting centimeters away from her face. One slight movement forward would cause the sword to plunge into her eyeball—but even so, [Y/N] couldn't afford to back away. Not when this was her singular chance of escape. The man before her had, without a doubt, killed many before her. He was like a predator, teeth bared and out for prey, observing her every move as if she was some sort of prey. In the face of such a threat, she knew it was most important to remain strong. The moment she showed fear, she would be eliminated. After a few seconds that dragged on for seemingly eternity, he lowered his blade. "Very well, then. If you are truly necessary for accessing the Stellaron, I'll need your services." [Y/N] let out a small breath of relief, not audible enough for the man to be able to pick up on it. "However, make one wrong move, and I will kill you without hesitation."

"That shouldn't be necessary," she replied, meeting his mocking stare with one of her own. "I appreciate your kindness in sharing that information with me, though."

. . .

For as long as [Y/N] could remember, she had been surrounded by darkness. The plague of everlasting night commenced when she was merely five years old, so her fragmented memories of the past were so vague that they may as well have been illusions. There was some information that she had garnered from those who lived with her in the darkness about the former state of the planet, but most were either sworn to secrecy or knew nothing at all. Örökkévaló had been a theocracy worshiping the aeon of destruction, Nanook. The rituals and other historical events were found in books which had now been rendered completely useless as there was no way to read the text.
