[Y/N] often wondered, among other things, if light returning to the planet was even a good thing in the first place. In the end, the balance of the ecosystem had shifted into a form where some animals likely couldn't survive without the darkness, and all those who needed light to survive had likely dwindled out or become entirely extinct.
For all these reasons, she didn't particularly care if the light returned or not. Even if it did, the surface would remain a barren wasteland devoid of human populus, and the rest of the organisms could potentially perish when the light came. In the end, she just wanted to escape out of this decaying planet.
As they continued plodding onwards for several more hours, she froze in her tracks at the faint sound of a heavy footstep.
"There's a monster," she took her dagger out from the side of her belt, but the man behind her didn't seem to have much of a reaction. How unlucky. Monsters were an uncommon sight, but unfortunately they were incredibly aggressive in nature. The footsteps approached closer and closer, and [Y/N] knew that it was coming straight for them. She had encountered several beasts of this nature in the past so she was fairly comfortable in handling them. Although she had never seen what they looked like, she managed to figure out what weak points were optimal for immobilizing the creature before effectively finishing it off.
Blade didn't move behind [Y/N] as he waited for the monster to draw closer. He didn't put his hand on his sword so she assumed that meant that he wasn't going to help her out. Figures.
It wasn't like she had expected anything of him in the first place, so she wasn't as offended as a normal person would be at his attitude. He was likely gauging her combat ability so that he could figure out how to strike her down if the need arose anyways.
Although you couldn't see the monster, it was reminiscent of a humanoid figure save for its bulging head and long, sturdy legs. The weak point of the monster was the large bulge on the back of its head where the heart seemingly resided. All she had to do was focus on breaking the hard layer of skin that encircled it and then plunge her dagger into the sticky gel-like substance that made up its insides.
The monster let out an ear-piercing screech as it got close enough to them to see them. [Y/N] had been told in the past that the monsters could see in the dark which immediately put them at an advantage.
Glancing back one more time at Blade, she realized he truly wasn't going to lift a finger to help her out. Holding the dagger in one hand, [Y/N] faced the monster that was roughly three times her height. It lifted one of its arms to strike, but she deftly evaded it and instead focused on its legs. If you removed the monster's mobility, it was far easier to scale its back and deal the final blow. As it tried to strike her again, she ducked under its arm and sliced a clean cut through its right hind leg. It wasn't enough to dismember it, but it was deep enough to render it immobile.
The creature let out a screech as the oozing liquid sprayed out from the open wound, some of it splattering onto [Y/N]'s arm. She took this moment of vulnerability and leaped onto its back, driving her dagger into its flesh to make sure that she didn't fall off. The wound it suffered from limited its mobility and made it harder to shake her off, so she heaved herself upwards with a grunt, her biceps burning from the effort of hoisting her body weight up with one arm. It thrashed around like a bull in an attempt to throw her off, but [Y/N] didn't lose her grip. Blade was still standing a couple meters away in the same position. If he had been willing to help, this battle would have been over already.
