They had been walking for close to three days now, meaning they were more than halfway to their destination. The Stellaron that Blade was seeking to lay in the former ruins of the capital of Örökkévaló, wedged in the remains of the former religious space for the clergy. Before the darkness came, Örökkévaló was supposedly a theocracy—[Y/N] didn't have much interest in the history of the planet so she simply tuned out people's words whenever they started drawling on the prime days of the planet.

Suddenly, the smell of vapor wafted into your nostrils. The rain is coming. We have to get some shelter. Picking up the pace [Y/N] felt the ground dip slightly beneath her feet after a few minutes to which she let out a sigh of relief.

"We have to shelter here," [Y/N] hopped into the small divot and observed the situation. Luckily there was an alcove just barely large enough so that the two of them could fit inside. She crawled into it and sat down with a plop, giving her muscles a chance to relax.

He didn't verbally acknowledge her words and stepped down into the divot beside [Y/N], however for some strange reason Blade didn't go into the alcove.

It is pretty cramped in here, but he'll have to suck it up. Is he seriously planning on standing outside when it starts to rain? Doesn't he know the dangers?

It appeared that he was either completely oblivious or didn't care in the slightest. Rain and dust storms were the only natural phenomenon that occurred on the planet that was incredibly dangerous, with the rain containing acidic properties that would burn through whatever clothing you wore and into your flesh. Even just a few seconds in the rain was enough to cause excruciating pain that no average human could withstand. Even if he's immortal, it would still cause damage to his body. If the acid seeped into his flesh and caused his limbs to numb, it could hinder our progress.

"You are unable to progress in the rain?" Blade asked, his deep voice mocking and scornful.

She blinked in baffled shock. What an idiotic question. "Of course not, I would die."
The aura of superiority Blade was exempting was so thick that it was almost tangible so [Y/N] figured that the rain from where he originated differentiated in nature from this planet. "Although I'm not aware of its chemical composition, the rain here has acidic properties." Or so I was told by some old geezer. "Staying in the rain for too long would kill you—if you're really not human, then it still may cause your limbs to numb. If you want to get to our destination as quickly as possible, the option with the least risk is to join me under here."

A small breeze whisked past the entrance of the alcove, a signal that the rain was only a few moments away. Albeit begrudgingly, the swordsmen ducked under the alcove beside her. [Y/N] pushed herself as far into the corner as she could, ignoring the cold brush of the stone wall against her skin. There wasn't much space at all which meant she could acutely feel Blade's presence beside her despite the fact they weren't touching. Hardly any warmth emanated from him and it was like she was next to a statue of ice. He didn't move an inch, seemingly staring into the darkness aimlessly.

As soon as the sound of rain began, [Y/N] felt a dull ache in her mind advising her to get some rest. The rhythmic pattering against the roof of the alcove continued on and she allowed herself to fall into a light slumber to rejuvenate some strength for the days ahead.

. . .

Blade stared at nothing in particular. The alcove they had decided to shelter in was slightly too small for him to be able to stand properly, so he was forced to awkwardly slouch himself in order to fit in the small space. He heard the slow, deep breaths of the individual sleeping beside him and realized that the girl had fallen asleep. It wasn't too surprising considering that she was a mortal. If anything, her lasting this long was the biggest surprise this whole endeavor had provided him.

She seemed capable enough to be a good guide, with a mediocre but passable amount of fighting experience and technique. He couldn't see anything in the darkness of the planet. Although it may drive some insane, Blade didn't particularly pay much attention to his loss of sight, instead pertaining to the matters at hand. Subconsciously, he reached his hand out into the rain for a few seconds. The droplets felt cold and wet against the rough palm of his hand, only to turn into a scorching hot needle that dug through his skin. Slowly retracting his hand back, Blade stared blankly at the spot where the girl was sleeping.

Drying off his hand, he ignored the burning pain that his body was supposed to be experiencing and leaned against the cold stone wall with a sigh. After he finished his objective, then what? He would likely kill the girl, leave with the Stellaron, then await further instruction. Despite his 'agreement' with her he had no intention to take her along with him. No matter how interesting she was, he never felt compelled to explore her any further than the bare minimum necessary.

He knew that she was smart enough to know that too, yet she was still guiding him to the Stellaron despite that fact. "How idiotic."

"Are you badmouthing me?" the sound of the girl's voice echoed in the alcove and he heard the rustling of her lifting her head. "At least have the decency to do it when I'm awake."

Blade didn't respond and turned his gaze back to the sound of the rain. He would be careful not to speak his thoughts aloud anymore.

The rain seemed to go on for hours.
