"...Come with you? What are you talking about? Did that device manage to completely alter your brain chemistry?"
The blinding light coming from behind him still stung her eyes so [Y/N] turned them towards the ground. Had her expression been illuminated by the light from the door? Had he seen her?
Sometime in the midst of her shock, the dagger she had been holding had fallen from her hands to the ground. She struggled to put the pieces together as she hung her head.
"No," he responded, "something just occurred to me. Your use has not fully run out."
Ah, so that's it. She smiled to herself bitterly while internally cursing herself for expecting that there was a possibility of his reason being anything different. "I see. Then I'll accompany you for a bit longer."
[Y/N] tried to stand up but the dim light still burned her retinas even when she had her eyes forced shut. The pain was more intense than anything she had felt before in her life. It tangled its claws into her insides, throbbing deep inside of her body with no possible way of escaping. If divine retribution existed, she figured this is what it would feel like. She could not even make out the features of the last person who would ever know of her presence in the universe.
In the midst of her agony she could faintly hear the sound of ripping and, before she knew it, the blinding pain in her eyes subsided as something was roughly wrapped around her head.
She initially reeled back in panic, instinctively reaching for the dagger at her side when a cold yet familiar grip grabbed her wrist to prevent her from moving.
"Even when doing things for your own sake, you have to make things difficult." His deep voice was closer to you than it ever had been before, sending instinctive tremors of fear down [Y/N]'s spine.
Even though Blade had just saved her life, she knew that if he desired he could easily overpower her and kill her. No amount of training she underwent could have possibly prepared her to fight an immortal being.
But to her relief, he stepped back to his usual distance after tying what seemed to be a cloth to her head.
"Thank you," she tried her best to keep her voice from trembling, the amount of pain she had just endured putting her into shock.
"...Just get up."
Now that the searing agony had been reduced to a burning pain, [Y/N] rose to her feet hesitantly. The cloth that was wrapped around her head had a faint metallic smell—the familiar scent of blood.
"Okay," she could barely muster up a response to him as her brain continued to reel.
Gathering all her remaining strength, she pushed herself to her feet once she heard Blade's footsteps heading down the staircase. He didn't stop to wait for her or to check if she was following him, so [Y/N] forced her aching limbs to move forward and follow him down into the light.
