"What's so important that you have to discuss it tonight?" Lindsey asked, lazily combing Stevie's hair, her head resting on his shoulder, as they drove back from the venue to the hotel the following night.
"Who knows." Stevie shrugged, she didn't care enough to ask. "Karen said that she can't get me away from you for five minutes, so she asked me in advance."
"Sounds like bullshit to me." Lindsey said, wondering what Stevie's assistant was really up to.
"You'll be just fine on your own, Lindsey. It's just one night." Stevie tilted her chin up to look at him and saw him pouting like a child. "Oh, stop that." She laughed, slapping his leg. "Your fingers must be itching to pick up your acoustic and write another love song about me anyway." She smirked, now making him laugh.
"I guess, I'll do that, but instead, I'll write about how you broke my heart yet again." Lindsey teased, then pressed a kiss to her hair. "Jokes aside, yes, I'll be fine, but I'm gonna miss you. I got used to sleeping next to you every night."
"Don't go there." Stevie stopped him, shaking her head slightly.
Their playful conversation was over and they remained silent for the remainder of the drive. They weren't suddenly uncomfortable or tense, but it got serious, so they rather didn't talk about it at all.
Once they arrived at the hotel, Lindsey walked with Stevie to her room first. Karen didn't ride with them, saying that she had to get some things from her own room before coming to Stevie's, so Lindsey wasn't about to leave Stevie by herself. Even though it was late and there weren't many people around, she still appreciated that he cared.
"If you decide that you want to sneak in to see me later, then by all means." Lindsey said, holding Stevie at arm's length.
"You'll be snoring the second your head hits the pillow." Stevie joked, though, there was some truth to it. "I'll see you in the morning."
"Right, you promised." Lindsey gave her a pointed look. "You said, we'd have breakfast in bed together."
"I know." Stevie nodded. "I'll set my alarm earlier, so we can do that."
"You don't know how to set an alarm." Lindsey teased and received a weak blow to his chest from Stevie's tiny fist. "You're extremely violent tonight."
"Go." She pushed at his shoulders.
Lindsey drew her back in for another quick peck on the lips. "I love you."
"Love you too, now go." She insisted, knowing that if Karen came before Lindsey left, she'd be listening about how disgusting their PDA was for the upcoming hour.
Blowing Lindsey a kiss, Stevie said, goodnight, giving him a small wave, then used her key card to enter her suite. She breathed out heavily, bending over to finally unzip her boots, when-
"Good evening."
"Oh Jesus Christ!" Stevie yelled out, clutching at her chest. "You scar- what?" She paused, completely confused, blindly searching for the light switch. "What are you doing in here? How did you get in here? Are- are you my late night meeting with Karen?" She frowned as the realization hit her. "Are you the reason she was being weird yesterday?"
"Depends." He shrugged, getting up to approach her. "Are you happy to see me?"
