Part 27

"Also!" Mick, not completely wasted, but not exactly sober either, returned. "Just letting you know that you really can't hear anything through these walls."

"Alright, honey." Lynn turned him back around. "It's time for you to go to bed."

Mick laughed along with Stevie and Dave, who were finally left alone. A couple of hours had passed since Dave's arrival, but they really hadn't had the time to talk about anything important yet. And there was plenty to discuss.

With a content sigh, Stevie leaned against Dave's side and his arm naturally wrapped around her, he pressed kiss to her hair. They enjoyed a moment of comfortable silence as well as the feeling of being close to each other after months of being apart.

"So, did you get Karen involved again?" Stevie asked, tilting her chin up.

"Actually, no." Dave shook his head, cupping her cheek, he lightly brushed the pad of his thumb over her skin. "I did call Mick, though."

"And got him involved instead?" Stevie asked impatiently.

"No! Would you just listen, jeez." Dave rolled his eyes playfully, making her chuckle. "When you told me to fuck off in Amsterdam-"

"I did not tell you to fuck off." Stevie felt the need to defend herself after an accusation like that. "I only-"

"You know, what I mean. I was kind of hoping that I would be taking you home with me and you told me to leave. That's what I mean." Dave corrected himself. "I returned home, sat down with Jordyn and, well, you obviously know, where that conversation led us. I took some time to restart my life yet again." He sighed, having done that one too many times in the past. "I was by myself, spent almost every day in the studio, writing and recording song after song. I will probably have to cut a big fat check off the new Foo Fighters album to you for all the inspiration." Dave joked. "Anyway, I was fighting with myself against going to see you, I had to keep myself occupied. I was prepared to camp out outside your house until you talked to me, but that probably wouldn't have gotten me anywhere." Stevie gave him a sympathetic look and reached up to press a kiss to his cheek. "So, I needed advice. I thought, who else if not the man, who's been one of your best friends for an eternity, with whom you also had a romantic relationship?" Seeing her opening her mouth to speak, Dave quickly added. "I just thought, he'd know. That's all."

"Well, you weren't wrong." Stevie shrugged, Mick did know her almost better than anyone else.

"We met up and I poured my heart out to him." Dave admitted. "I told him, I had no idea, how to handle the situation. The only thing I was sure of was that I wanted you." Stevie wondered how Mick was able to keep this to himself, knowing what a blabbermouth he was. "He believed that I should wait. He said that you were simply protecting yourself, guarding your heart from any more pain. That you've heard enough of empty promises not to trust me."

"And you've been telling me the truth the whole time." Stevie smiled tearfully, she closed her eyes at the softest touch of their lips. "So, this was Mick's idea? To bring you here?"

"All Mick." Dave nodded, eternally grateful. "If you need me to spell it out for you, I'm all in."

Stevie chuckled, she took a deep breath to calm her nerves. "And if you need me to spell it out for you..." She paused, biting into her bottom lip, Dave's heart was beating out of his chest, anticipating her next words. "I love you, too."

There was that big grin on his face that she'd missed so much. She squealed, when he lunged forward to kiss her, forgetting for a moment that they were in someone else's house as that one kiss led to a full on make out session.

Stevie slowed them down, holding Dave's face in her palms, planting small kisses on his lips before they eventually stopped. She smiled up at him and he down at her. 

"No more telling me to fuck off?" Dave asked, eyebrow raised.

"No more." Stevie shook her head, laughing heartily, before he silenced her with a much gentler kiss.
