The next few days, Percy settled into a routine of getting tutored by Adira. She was an okay teacher, but she could've been better. Greek wasn't hard for him to read, or Adira either. But, she wasn't the fun Adira anymore. She treated him as if they were still at Yancy. The scoffing, bickering, and fighting got worse. She decided that she couldn't be vulnerable.

She can't get too close with people who aren't family. Luke and Annabeth, they're a different story. Percy questioned this.

Adira did a lot of outdoor activities, such as teaching sword fighting to her siblings, which she easily excelled at. She helped Mariana, knowing that her other siblings weren't as patient as she was. To put this easily, Mariana wasn't.... Perfect with a sword. She almost sliced Adira's arm off, who waved it off. Adira got into position again, "and... again!" she shouted, circling her sister. Mariana meant to jab, then swing, but when she "jabbed" her sword, it fell out of her hand, right at Adira's armor. She was getting frustrated. "I should just quit. I can't do this," Mariana said, angry.

"Hey, look at me," Adira threatened and Mari obeyed her. "IF you quit now, they'll be right. The people that said you'll never make it. The ones that think of you as just another kid. The ones that say you're too young. Now, let's start again."

Mariana looked at her, murder in her eyes. Once she said begin, she came to Adira, battle-ready. Adira almost lost her balance, but instead, she attacked, whacking her sword with her own. "There you go," Adira said, smiling.

...

Adira sat beside Grover and Percy on the lake. She sat on the pier, forcing the urge to jump into the water and turn into a fish or something. She was exhausted from training her sister and her siblings.

"So," Percy began, "how did your talk with Mr. D go?" he asked. Adira sat up, remembering how Grover had to talk to Mr. D about it.

"Yeah," she added.

"Fine," Grover said, "just great." She knew he was lying. "So, your career's still on track?" Percy asked.

"Ch-Chiron told you about my searcher's license?" Grover's voice said, looking at Adira then back at Percy.

"Well... no." Percy had no idea what a searcher's license was, but it didn't seem like the right time to ask. "He just said you had big plans, you know ... and that you needed credit for completing a keeper's assignment. So did you get it?"

Grover looked down at the naiads. "Mr. D suspended punishment. He said I hadn't failed or succeeded with you yet, so our fates were still tied together. If you got a quest and I went along to protect you, and we all came back alive, then maybe he'd consider the job complete."

Adira popped her head up. "That's good, right?" she asked, raising her eyebrows.

"Blaaa-haa-ha! Might as well have me doing stable-cleaning duty. The chances of either of you getting a quest, why would you want to bring me along?" Grover scoffed, and Adira mocked his scoff. "Of course I'd want to bring you along," Percy and Adira shouted.
