For a start, it was a weird month with Annie and Thalia. We all stayed at a boarding school together, since I decided not to go with my father. Not with what was happening at home. Me and Percy's relationship was weird, with it being long-distance, but we made it work. Once we both decided we were 100% official, it was his birthday, and we both celebrated. I'd always be at my boarding school in Manhattan, or, I'd show him the lake. During camp, my brothers would always glare at him, but I reassured Percy it was all in good fun.

He didn't believe me.

The Friday before his winter break, Sally Jackson took me, Percy, Annabeth, Thalia, and Brett to a new boarding school. Yes, Brett went along too. He and I were forced to take turns to become puppies or cats or rabbits. Whatever animals that would fit in as car pets. I forced Brett to be a dog most of the time, and he growled every time I leaned on Percy, or fell asleep. Or both at the same time.

It was an eight-hour drive from New York to Bah' Habah', Maine. Sleet and snow pounded the highway. Me, Annabeth, Thalia, and Brett hadn't seen Percy in months, but between the blizzard and the thought of what we were about to do, we were too nervous to talk much. Except for Sally.

I quickly learned that she talks more when she's nervous. By the time we finally got to Westover Hall, it was getting dark, and she'd told me, Brett, Annabeth and Thalia every embarrassing baby story there was to tell about Percy. Then Brett always replied with stories about me, but never him.

Thalia wiped the fog off the car window and peered outside. "Oh, yeah. This'll be fun."

Westover Hall looked like an evil knight's castle. It was all black stone, with towers and slit windows and a big set of wooden double doors. It stood on a snowy cliff overlooking this big frosty forest on one side and the gray churning ocean on the other.

"Are you sure you don't want me to wait?" Sally asked.

"No, thanks, Mom," Percy said. "I don't know how long it will take. We'll be okay."

"But how will you get back? I'm worried, Percy."

He began blushing.

"It's okay, Ms. Jackson." I smiled reassuringly.

"Yeah, Ms. Jackson. Thanks for driving," Annabeth we said. Her blond hair was tucked into a ski cap and her gray eyes were the same color as the ocean.

"We'll keep him out of trouble," Brett squeaked, since he was a human again, sitting at Thalia's feet.

Sally seemed to relax a little. She smiled at me.

"All right, dears," Sally said. "Do you have everything you need?"

"Yes, Ms. Jackson," Thalia said. "Thanks for the ride."

"Extra sweaters? You have my cell phone number?"

"Mom—"

"Your ambrosia and nectar, Percy? And a golden drachma in case you need to contact camp?"
