I stood in front of the entrance, mentally trying to prepare myself for this night. The main members of the league hold a meeting before joining to the others at the party. I took a deep breath and went inside.
I would rather be at home with Dick, but he invited his friend and I didn't want to be there.
Fortunately, the party only started at 10 pm, so there was nobody on the hallways. I went directly to the meeting room. The others were already there because they know I hate it when someone is late.
"If everyone is here, we can start the meeting" I said as I took my place next to Superman. "Happy New Year to you too, Bats" Green Lanter said, but they all sat down at the table. "The sooner we finish this meeting, the sooner you can join the party" Superman tried to calm them down. "Please, the party doesn't start until I arrive" he said and winked. I was very close to hitting him. "Great, then I can finally start my speech. I want your full attention because defeating CADMUS won't be an easy job and you need to concentrate. Hal!" I shouted at him when he tried to douse Flash with a whole bottle of water. I'm surrounded by children.
Wonder Woman took the bottle from him and Flash hit Green Lanter on the shoulder. Now that everyone could pay attention to me, I began to present the plan to them.
"Any question?" I asked at the end of my demonstration. "Let me see if I understood your plan. Martian let us through the energy shield, then Wonder Woman and Greeni attack from the air and me and you from the ground. How can we blow up the place?" Flash asked. "Martian looks for the main energy source on the blueprint and we cause a surge that makes the place explode. I'll do this part, I made a device specifically for this action. Your job is to get into the building and rescue all the people before the explosion" "And what will my job be, Batman?" Superman asked and everyone in the room fell silent for a moment. "You have to stay away. It's too dangerous for you" I said and saw the disappointment in his eyes, but I can't take back my words. He can't come. "I'm Superman. Nothing can be too dangerous for me" he protested and I sighed. "Nothing, except kryptonite and they have more of it than I do. You're not coming, and this is my last word!"
We remained in silent for a whole minute and stare into each other's eyes. The others didn't even dare to breath. Then Superman leaned back in his chair and nodded. Everyone let out a gasp of tension at the same time.
"Fine, but I'll be there watching from afar. Are you okay with that?" he asked sarcastically. "Yes, it'll be perfect. The meeting is over" I said and I went out to the corridor. I was heading towrards the front door to go home, but Diana garbbed my hand and pulled me back.
"Bruce, what just happened?" she whispered outraged. "Nothing. Would you let me go now?" I asked frustrated and she let me go. I walked towards the door again, but she called me back. "Bruce Wayne, if you're not looking for him now, I'll break all your gadgets!" she yelled and I stopped. "I didn't do anything" I said without turning back to her. "Yes, you did! And now go to that party and make it up for him. I don't want to hear excuses!" she said pointing her finger at me when I turned around to say something to her, but she stopped me. "Fine! But I have to change my clothes first" I said and I went into my room.

I walked into the party and Stargirl found me almost immediately. I was glad to see her because we hadn't seen each other since the Christmas party.
"Bruce, you came!" she hugged me tightly. I kindly pat her back then she let me go. "Imagine, I'm going to school with Firestorm. Isn't it great?" "Whoa, how much coffee did you drink? You need to slow down" "Sorry, I'm just happy" "Really? And what is the reason?" "Well, I think I can tell you. You can keep a secret, right?" she asked and I nodded. "Me and Firestorm are together like a couple" she said in a whisper and with a huge smile on her face. "I'm happy for you, Stargirl. Don't you see Superman somewhere? I have to talk to him" I asked as I looked around the crowded place looking for him. "I saw him going out to the corridor"
I thanked her for the information and went outside to look for him. I was searching through the nearest hallways when I met Vixen. She was chatting with someone on her phone and I wanted to disappear, but she already noticed me.
"Hey, pretty boy! Aren't you the famous Bruce Wayne? I saw you at the Christmas party too, but I haven't had a chance to talk to you" she said as she came closer to me. "Yes, I am, but if you excuse me I have to find someone" I said and I turned around to walk away, but she grabbed me by my tie and kissed me. I tried to pull away, but she dug her claws into my shoulders. "Bruce, are you here? I heard you were looking for me. Where..." he dropped his glass from his hand and I could finally manage to pull away from her. "Damn it! Clark, let me explain!" I shouted after him because he was about to run away. "Yes, let us explain, Superman. The thing is, we are in love with each other and..." Vixen begin but I interrupted. "Vixen, enough! Get out of here and never come near me again!" I shouted at her outraged. It was too much for me forone night.
After she left, we quiet for a few minutes, just staring at each other. "I'm still waiting for your explaination" he said in a cold tone. I hate when he does this. "Vixen was the one who kissed me, but you should know it" "I know, I see it on your suit. I'd tell you to go see a doctor, but you wouldn't. I'd like to talk about what happened at the meeting" he crossed his arms over his chest and I nodded. "I'm sorry if I was too harsh on you, I didn't mean to. I just don't want you to get hurt meaningless. You'll put the whole team in danger if you take part in this plan" I said when he sighed and lowered his head. I stepped to him and grabbed his hands. "I love you, but I lead this mission and you can't come. Are you still mad at me?" I asked him looking into his eyes.
He shaked his head saying no and we almost kissed, but my phone rang. I took out my phone annoyed.
"Sorry, it's Dick. Do you mind if I pick it up?" "No, he might get into trouble" he said and I picked up the phone.
"Hey, Dick. Everything is alright?" I asked, but I heard he was tense. "Yes, can I join you at the party? I'm already dressed up" "Sure. Take the Batjet it has autopilot" I said confused. "Thanks. I'll be there in a minute" he said and he hung up the phone.
"Is everything okay with Dick?" Clark asked worried. "I don't know"
