“Yeah, like,” Will’s gaze flitted to Mike’s. “At lunch everyone was saying Jennifer likes me, and maybe they’re right, but like, even if I was gonna pursue something, I still don’t understand, like, what I’m supposed to do.”

Mike’s heart constricted at the possibility of Will and Jennifer getting together. Going out. Kissing, like he–

“What do you mean? I– I mean I might not be the best… teacher.” He cringed at himself. “But I tried to show you what you’re supposed to do.”

Will fiddled with his fingers, peering at them as though they might hold the secrets he desired. “Yeah, but like– is that what you start with? And what do you do if– like how does it work when two people are doing it? Wouldn’t you just like… keep bumping into each other or something?”

Mike chewed on his lip. “I mean, you’d probably start with like– what you did the first time. And then, yeah you might– but there’s like, different kinds of kisses and stuff, and someone usually leads, I think. I’m not really sure how it works when you’re both– eager…” He trailed off, eye twitching when he realized what he was saying.

Will looked perplexed. “But didn’t–“ he cleared his throat awkwardly. “Didn’t you and El…?”

Mike picked at a thread on his jeans. “Um. Yeah.” He didn’t elaborate.

Will paused and scratched at his neck. “Well, I mean– if neither of us– we could– just to–“ It almost sounded like Will was on the radio and half of his words were getting cut off in the static.

Mike’s eyes snapped to Will. Was he suggesting…

“Do you want to… practice again?”

Will flushed and nodded.

“Oh.”

“Only if– if it’s okay– I just think it would help,” Will offered.

Help what? Help him prepare for kissing Jennifer Hayes? Mike tried not to think about it too hard lest he actually puke out his guts.

“Yeah, yeah that’s fine,” Mike heard himself say.

“Okay,” Will muttered. “So we both– we both do it this time?” He moved closer to Mike on the couch. Mike met his eyes.

“Yeah.”

“Okay.”
