"There's the love birds!" Logan exclaims as Jaxon and I walk into the kitchen.

I smile and shrug before moving away from them to call the pizza place. We might face forgotten to order the pizza due to our entertainment system.

Just as I hang up, my phone rings again. This time from Janice. I groan before answering it.

"Hello?"
"Hi, Karlie! I know it's holiday season so I'll make this quick. I would like for you to try something different and the reason to do so is to rebuild your popularity."
"Rebuild? What is that supposed to mean?"
"Well with the most recent incident, some people are assuming that you have quit the model industry with the amount, or lack there of, shows you've been doing."
"What are you suggesting?"
"Come down to California and we'll start up your career again."
"Um, I'll have to think about it but I'll let you know."
"Alright, bye bye."

I immediately open one of my social media apps and looked for everything and anything that people have said.

"I bet she was in something and karma finally got her."
"Her clothes were shit anyways."
"It saved her from the embarrassment of being a failure in the clothing industry."

I didn't think that people would think negatively about this. I thought some people would at least feel bad that my friend had died but this world is too fucked up.

People enjoyed the show, up until her death. They blame her when I should've known better than to try and go public, knowing that something is happening in Jaxon's mafia.

I didn't realize that tears were falling out of my eyes until I sniffled to clear my nose. I quickly clean myself up and walk back to the kitchen.

"Alright, pizza is on its way!" I exclaim, watching as they glance up at me before continuing the random board game they must've found.

All except Jaxon, who's eyebrows furrow and he walks towards me with a look of concern, grabbing my hips.

"Why were you crying?"

"Well aren't you rude? Are you calling me ugly? Because if so, you're sleeping in a different bed." I say, playfully.

"Karlie." He deadpans, pulling me closer to him.

"I'm going to California after Christmas." I say quickly, feeling his grip loosen before it goes back to normal.

"Okay, I'll make sure things are ready for us." He says warily.

"No, I'm going. You need to stay here and fix this issue you have going on." I tell him, hiding the nervousness I'm feeling.

"That's not funny, Karlie." He says sternly. I hate when he says my name like that. It shows that he's mad at me.

"I'm not joking. You are in danger and you need to get to the bottom of this situation, Jaxon. You need to worry about your safety and your men and women's safety." I explain, moving away from him.

"Okay... why are you going?" He asks slowly as he wipes his face clean of emotions.

"Shows." I explain vaguely before rounding him and walking towards the table.

"I wanna play!"

I look at each individual person with narrowed eyes, willing someone to mess up.

"2 three's." Journey says, placing two cards down.

I glance at my card seeing I have 3 three's.

"Bullshit!" I yell, watching as she throws down her cards and whines. I do a little dance as she picks up the large stack of cards with a frown.

"You're enjoying this way too much." Kane says, laughing slightly.

"How are you so good at this?" Logan exclaims before placing his card down and continuing the game.

Jaxon got pissed off after our argument and went to his office. I brought him a plate of pizza but all I got was a 'thanks' before I left.

I understand why he is upset, we've done everything together and now we're separating for god know how long, but this is my life. It's important for me to fix my career.

It's also important for Jaxon to focus on this threat. He goes to the warehouse maybe three times a week and he doesn't think I know that I know everything that is happening. The fake warehouses they use to cover up their real ones were attacked. A few of his men have been taken and found but no longer living. There's too much risk and I am a distraction.

"So what are the plans for tomorrow?" Journey asks, glancing at me.

"Well it's Christmas Eve, so there will be a big breakfast then we'll be going to the mall and ice skating, and finally we're going to open one gift I specifically laid out and watch a Christmas movie to end the day." I rant, sighing when I'm finished.

"You've really thought this out, huh?" She asks, looking at me with slight concern.

"Yeah. Um, I'll be needing you after the holiday. We're heading to California." I tell her quietly, so that I don't interrupt Logan's and Kane's arguing.

"Why and for how long?" She asks, scrunching her face in confusion.

"I'm sure you've already seen it-" I give her a look before continuing. "and I don't know how long, but I have a feeling it'll be long."

"Jaxon?" I knock quietly.

"Come in." His voice mumbles through the door.

I enter his office, taking a seat in front of his desk. He leans back in his chair, watching me carefully.

"Will you be coming to bed?" I ask, keeping my voice quiet but with a slight attitude.

"I will later." He grunts, picking up a piece of paper just to place it down in a different spot.

"Would you like me to grab anything for you?" I ask, standing.

"No. Now will you please leave me alone?" He snaps, causing me to jerk my head back.

"What is your problem?" I exclaim, throwing my hands up. "I haven't done anything to you and you're treating me like shit because of what? Because I want to go to California without you?"

"I'm sorry, Karlie. I didn't mean to snap at you." He sighs, shaking his head.

"No. You have been held up in this goddamn office all day, instead of being with me and your friends for the holidays. And don't feed me some bullshit, because we both know you cleared your schedule so that we could celebrate the holidays." I rant, running a stressful hand through my hair.

He just sits there, staring at his hands that rest on his desk. He doesn't even give me the slightest hint of what he's thinking, he doesn't even look at me.

I scoff, nodding my head as I leave his office, slamming the door shut. I just wanted to have a good Christmas. I haven't had a good Christmas since Josh was alive.

I miss him. I miss them all. I'm tired of the fucking Grim Reaper stealing all the important people in my life. You would think with how big this planet is, he'd be busy doing something else.

I groan as I throw open my door. I quickly wash my face before grabbing one of Jaxon's black shirts then walking to a guest bedroom.

Sometimes I wonder if Jaxon had a personality before me because this guest room is the definition of 'bleh'. Everything is gray, different shades of gray.

I put on the shirt before throwing mirror onto the bed and crawling underneath the blankets. You know, besides the fact that the bed is cold, it's actually pretty comfortable.
