She didn't know what grated on her nerves more. The fact that Seth kept smirking at her or the fact that he'd actually managed to land them this conversation with minimal effort. They followed behind the snotty Queen to her war rooms, Fallon and Seth walking side by side like actual partners.
He nudged an elbow into her side. "You struggling to come to terms with the fact that I could actually help you going forwards?"
She looked to the ceiling, searching for calm. "You're getting ahead of yourself."
"It seems to me like I have the right soft touch that you're lacking."
"Don't bother."
"You're the bad cop and I'm the good cop."
"And you went there."
He'd take anything he could get if it furthered his efforts to worm his way in. His probation period would be over in two days. This was his chance to prove himself.
"I'm just thinking about how good of a team we're going to make. Fallon and Seth, kicking ass and taking names."
He'd milk this for all it was worth.
"Please stop."
"No worries Fal. I've got your back."
"Dear lord."
He was undeterred, whispering, "You just can't deny the magic touch."
Seth was many things. Exhausting, for instance.
"It's not about having a magic touch," She chastised. "More like Marina's spotted an easy fuck buddy."
"Hey it's not my fault women know where to find a good time." He paused, correcting himself. "Or most women do. But like I said- I'll be saving this dick for you."
"You'll be saving it for a long time."
"A long time's not forever."
All about the semantics.
In the war room, Marina sat across from them, completely loved up on Seth. He hadn't even touched the woman. When asked, he told Fallon he had untouchable rizz.
She hadn't asked any more after that, figuring he wouldn't give her a serious answer.
Seated at the head of the table, Marina pursed her lips. "You wanted five minutes. You have five minutes."
Five minutes Fallon wouldn't waste on pleasantries. She dived right in. "You've been rejecting King Claudio's attempts to contact you. True or false?"
"False. I read his letters and respond where I see fit."
"So you're just that stupid."
The Queen's eyebrows pinched. "I won't tolerate blatant disrespect."
Fallon rolled her eyes. "Claudio is a monarch who's had a thousand years of experience managing his throne. He knows how to please his people whilst also demanding their respect. In his history, he's never had a rebellion against him as King. You've not even managed a year without trouble. Claudio's offering you his guidance and yet you reject logic by refusing him."
The King didn't ask for anything in return. He simply wanted to be her mentor just like the former King of Runealm had requested.
"Claudio doesn't want to help me," Marina insisted snottily. "He wants to change the way things are run."
"Claudio's not like that. He wants to see you prosper. Not everyone's out to get you."
Marina's lips peeled back with bitterness. "Just Amazon women who think they know better."
