He followed her through cobblestoned streets wordlessly. His body was tired and aching. For a change, he didn't question her every decision, trusting she'd find them somewhere to stay. Outside the first B and B they spotted, she took in her reflection in the window, scrubbing her fingers over her cheeks until the smudged warpaint disappeared. The less attention they drew to themselves the better.
He waited patiently, following her inside when she was ready.
She led them into a nautical B and B. It wasn't overly clean. Equally, it wasn't overly dirty. An aqua demon lounged around in a chair behind the desk, head stuck in a book. They had time to scan his desk before he looked up.
Several piles of leaflets neatly lined the front. Each advertised a different protest, demonstration or rebellion.
Fallon clearing her throat had the demon looking up.
Gods, something about the way he looked Fallon up and down seriously grated on Seth's nerves. It wasn't like he had a claim on her or anything. He obviously knew that. And this wasn't jealousy. Couldn't the demon tell they were on serious business here?
Fallon thought nothing of it.
He'd expected her to adopt a fake smile or butter the demon up, but as with most things about Fallon, that serious look didn't leave her features.
"Are you open to bookings?"
"We have a few rooms going," The demon said, closing his book. "But they're steep prices. We're expecting to fill up in the next few days. And we don't take last minute bookings."
He wanted to haggle with Fallon.
Good luck with that one buddy.
Her eyebrow raised. "You do now. We're looking for two rooms. My br—"
Not fucking happening! "Boyfriend," He rushed, coughing. "I'm her boyfriend." He dropped an arm around her waist, feeling her go rigid. "My girl and I were looking for a room. It doesn't need to be fancy. We'll take whatever you have."
The desk demon's lips pursed. "I'll check with my manager if we can fit you in."
When he turned, disappearing through the room out back, Fallon shrugged his hold off, turning that unimpressed glare his way. "What are you playing at?"
"Trust me. This is for the best."
No way was he suffering the same fate Annaliese and Evette had forced on their partners. Fallon wasn't telling any fucker they were siblings. No fucking chance. Seth was just too fast.
"Have you lost your damned mind?"
"I don't know." He shrugged. "The water might've messed with my brain."
"I'm going to kill you."
"Can you kill me later? I want to warm up first."
She scoffed. "You're intolerable."
"I'm all yours baby."
"I'm not sharing with you."
"Doesn't look like you're getting a choice." He leaned his hip against the desk, giving her a fake look of resign. "It's annoying having other people completely wrecking your plans, isn't it?"
"Shut up."
He leaned closer, lips brushing her ear. "Am I under your skin?"
"I'll skin you."
"Can't wait to get under you now we're in a relationship."
She could give and take. Her brown eyes flashed with malicious intent. "Oh I see, and you'd let me do all the work."
