Nothing pissed Seth off quite like Duncan being placed in the good fighting group. It wasn't just the title of the group that pissed him off. The way Fallon smiled appreciatively as she watched him fight was the icing on the cake. The cherry was being placed in the group beneath Duncan as average.Average.
A word that'd never- as in never, ever, ever- been used to describe Seth before.
As he stumbled through his fight with an aqua demon, he didn't get one of those appreciative Fallon smiles. She'd looked on neutrally, passively, and then pointed in opposite directions for him and the demon.
It was infuriating.
Worse, Duncan the stupid demon of the stupid old order pact had taken it as a win in his new effort to romance Fallon.
Nothing grated on the tracker's nerves quite like the conversation that'd followed.
"I think she likes me."
"You think? You think a lot of things."
How could Fallon be into this imbecile at all? She liked decisiveness. This man thought he knew what he wanted. Equally, he didn't think he was sure.
"I think I'm sure about this one."
There he goes again.
Think, think, think.
I think you should fuck the hell off.
"What makes you think she likes you?"
"I don't know. It's just the way she looked at me. Like I'm—"
"The shit beneath her shoe? The gum she stood in? Roadkill?"
Fucking hell, the demon's eyes had practically turned into hearts. "Like I'm special."
"Yikes, that sucks for you. See, Amazons show their tender feelings through aggression, violence and disgust. Special? Not a good sign buddy."
"Have you ever seen a woman like that?"
They both turned to watch the Amazon. Fallon was busy inspecting a series of fights she had going on. But fuck, he'd never seen anyone like Fallon. There was no one out there like Fallon. Not in this universe.
"Not in Runealm," Seth answered, feigning calm. "I'll give you that. Fallon has more fashion sense."
"She's wow."
An apt description.
Alright, I'm pulling out the big guns.
"But she's not your fated mate. Duncan, why waste all that effort attaining the unattainable when your perfectly mundane mate is somewhere out there waiting for you?"
Duncan wasn't even listening. Love-sick fool. Which meant Seth would have to find a bigger and bolder way to ruin anything between Fallon and Duncan completely.
Introducing operation FAD. Like their initials- to an extent- this attraction was nothing but a fad. Seth would make damn sure of it.
A week had gone by. A week of gruelling fights, tired nights and hard work. Fuck, he'd never been worked so hard in his life. But everyone here was in the same boat. Some complained for the first few days but when they started noticing differences, their words soon fell short.
I fucking want Fallon.
He watched her a lot, trying to learn from her ways. Fallon never rushed into anything. Her every decision was thought out and calculated. Like a predator, he was learning his prey.
