Raelynn's P.O.V

Right after school the next day Jim, Alexa, and I rushed to the dentist's office to get Toby. We hadn't gotten to tell him what happened with the amulets yet because he checked out of school early because of his braces. I was going fast enough that I wouldn't be surprised if I won a race or something.

"Jim! How do you think Tobes' gonna react?" I asked, bouncing on my feet after we stopped in front of the office.

"I'd bet he'll be shocked enough to faint RaeRae." He chuckled at my childish enthusiasm as we walked through the front doors.

"I'm just gonna wait right here, don't mind me," Alexa muttered as she leaned against the brick wall of the building.

"Don't go in there, he's with a patient!" The front desk lady said, but we ignored her and walked right into the room.

When we walked in what we saw was quite the sight. Toby was laid on the dentist's chair, with the dentist's hand stuck in his mouth. I couldn't help but burst into laughter at the sight in front of me.

Jim was totally calm on the other hand and casually said, "Tobes!" while walking over next to the chair.

I managed to stop my hysterical laughter and exclaimed, "Tobes! Tobes, Tobes, Tobes, Tobes!" I jumped up and down excitedly, "We've gotta talk to you like, ASAP!"

Toby mumbled something that was hard to make out with the dentist's hand still stuck in his mouth. It confused me so I quirked my head to the side.

"What?" Jim asked.

"He said he's a little busy right now." The dentist said as he stuck a sharp object into Toby's gaping mouth.

"Oh god, it hurts!" Toby cried, well mostly grunted with the pain.

"Um, well do you remember the stuff in the canal the other day? And when I disappeared for a bit when we were coming home that same day?" I said, making exaggerated hand gestures to emphasize my words, "You know, the amulet thingy, the weird voice? Everything?"

Toby grunted something and yet again neither me nor Jim could understand a word of what he was saying.

"What?" We said in unison.

"He said, "This can't wait guys?" The dentist translated and shoved the drill back into Toby's mouth and Toby screamed again.

"We've already waited till morning! Who goes to the dentist two days in a row?" Jim questioned, his frustration was kind of obvious. I attempted to calm him down by rubbing his wrist lightly, it seemed to work because as I did, his shoulders untensed.

I understood why Jim was frustrated though. This was not a little thing, this was huge! We'd been given a sacred obligation to a race of trolls we didn't even know existed until yesterday night, and now when we have a chance to tell our best friend, he's in the middle of another dentist appointment?

The dentist paused his drilling to let Toby try and say something again, but when it only came out as incoherent garbling, he translated it.

"'I wanna get these braces off before I'm thirty'" He translated.

"Thank you..." I sighed, this time I was the one getting frustrated, I rolled my eyes as the dentist shoved yet another tool into the red-heads mouth.

Toby garbled something else at us, but at that point, I was just finished with even hearing what he had to say. I flopped to the floor and sat in a criss-cross fashion with my cheek propped up against my palm.
