"Mary," Toby said, as he leaned against the locker next to her, "Can we be real for a moment? A woman like you deserves anything she wants. And what you want is for me to be your date to the Spring Fling. It's okay... you don't even have to ask." He smirked, wiggling his eyebrows towards her.
She shuddered and stuck out her tongue, "I'd rather choke to death." She stated shortly, slamming shut her locker door and stalking away.
"Your loss." Toby shrugged and looked around, spotting Darci just a few feet away. He slid smoothly up next to her with a grin.
"Hey, Darci..." He went to say but she just sighed and walked off. I was watching the entire thing unfold from my locker just a foot away and chuckled to myself as Darci came up to stand next to me.
I felt eyes staring at me when she came up and glanced around, trying to pinpoint who was staring at me. I caught the eyes of Jim and flushed with a wide smile and waved at him. He jumped a little in surprise and waved back before turning around and struggling to close his locker. I stifled a soft laugh.
"He still hasn't asked you?" Darci shook her head in slight disappointment as she watched me stare after Jim as he and Toby spoke to each other. Probably Tobes complaining about how many girls had turned him down for Spring Fling.
"Nope. But if he doesn't ask me, I'm working on a plan to maybe ask him..." I confessed quietly.
That's when she gave me a look of pure shock, "What? My little Linnie Lue finally getting the guts to ask out her crush?" I sighed, a blush covering my cheeks.
I ignored her and began to walk over to the boys. I overheard the very tail end of their conversation.
"I-I'm working up to it okay..." Jim was saying, stumbling over his words a bit in nervousness.
"That's what people call 'wussing out' Jimbo." Toby sighed at his best friend, "You guys are literally dating. Why are you so scared?"
"I'm just waiting for my moment Tobes... that's not wussing.." He defended himself and Toby snorted in disbelief.
"That's what they call wussing out. Wussy." Toby rolled his eyes.
Lyonna suddenly appeared in front of them both out of nowhere, still trapped in her human form, "He's correct Master Jim. I've spent the afternoon in the School's library and you are, apparently, a popular topic of gossip."
"Lyonna?" I walked up, looking at her in pure confusion and nearly scaring Jim so badly he jumped out of his skin, "what are you doing hanging out at our school?"
"Well, Mistress Raelynn, that... is an interesting story." She chuckled.
Toby glanced at her, also confused, "Wait- you said people are gossiping about Jim?" Jim was frantically shaking his head now that I was present in the group he was panicking.
"I didn't hear much, but the words wussing and out were frequently invoked." She gave Jim an apologetic glance and he just looked a little floored.
He shook from his disappointment and aimed a question at Lyonna, "Why were you in our school's library?"
"Well, we've exhausted all of Trollmarket's resources, pertaining to the mysterious mark Angor Rot painted on your faces. Then a thought occurred to me, what about the Library in Arcadia Oaks?" She grinned, pleased with her decision.
"And?" I asked, prompting her to tell us about anything she found.
Lyonna's giddy grin melted away and she sighed, "Sadly, all I learned was that Master Jim is a wuss when it comes to the fairer s-" Jim clamped his hands over her mouth and gave me a nervous grin. I glanced in confusion between the trio before Toby's gaze got caught on something behind me and he grinned widely.
