"For centuries, the troll and human worlds stood separate and at peace," Blinky said, "Divided by bridges that acted as doorways between our two worlds. But the GumGums wanted to devour all mankind. They were led by Gunmar the Black. The rest of Trollkind fought against him, culminating in the great battle of Killahead Bridge, the portal to Gunmar's Darklands. After many moons, good triumphed over evil, and our great trollhunters, Deya the Deliverer and Seshia the Savior, locked Gunmar away, exiling him to the Darklands. Sealing the Killahead Bridge with their amulets of Daylight and Moonlight. After, we tore it apart, stone by stone. We left the old world in search of peace. We stowed away on a ship called the Mayflower. Just a handful of us and gnomes we'd brought along for companionship and nourishment. Finally, we arrived in a strange and exotic realm."
"New Jersey," Arrrgh smiled and I giggled at him.
"We kept walking," Blinky ignored Arrrgh and me and continued his story, "Eventually we came across a new Heartstone and we realized we had found a new home, under Arcadia..."
Blinky set down the beautifully cryptic book he had been reading and looked up to see Arrrgh, Toby and I paying close attention to him, but Jim was fast asleep in his chair. He sighed loudly and marched over to Jim, book in hand, and slammed it shut in Jim's face.
"¡Lo siento Senor Uhl! No me mates!" He shouted in surprise when he woke up. Toby and I clamped our hands over our mouths to keep from laughing.
"The training of troll history might seem like a minor duty, Master Jim, but-" the blue troll was cut off by me.
"He's sorry Blink, we pulled an all-nighter last night studying for our Spanish comprehension test and apparently Senor Jim's brain is Muy gooey..." I snickered and Jim gave me a soft glare.
"Yeah and somehow you're wide awake...I don't know. I guess I thought if I'm supposed to be facing Draal in a week, my training would be a bit more...active?" He stood up and yawned loudly.
"Oh yeah!" Toby shouted, "When are they gonna learn Troll-kwondo, or rock -itsu?" I lost it at Toby's mixing of martial arts and things related to the trolls. I rolled off my chair, holding my stomach as I cackled.
"Yup, there it is...She's lost it..." Jim muttered.
Blinky ignored Jim and me again and spoke to Toby, "Before one fights, Toby D. One must understand why one fights, for these precious early steps, will decide whether young trollhunters will become a Deya the Deliverer or Seshia the Savior." He pointed to the two intricate statues above them.
"Or Unkar the Unfortunate," Arrrgh said as he pointed up to the armless statue.
"Well, tomorrow, we have a Spanish exam with Senor Uhl the unforgiving. My main concern is for my immediate future." Jim stated and I nodded vigorously in agreement.
"But to learn what will happen in the future," Lyonna said, matter of factly, "One must only look to the past." He dropped a heavy book in Jim's hands.
"I recommend A Brief Recapitulation of Troll Lore, by the venerable Bedehilde. Volume one of forty-seven." Blinky recommended.
"Okay but if we don't pass the exam, we're grounded and can't be your Trollhunters," I stated, "Sorry Blinky, Lyonna, but the amulets chose us... And now we've gotta live two lives..."
But all of a sudden a troll ran into the forge and over to Blinky, panting.
"Oh no," Blinky looked frightened, "Is it the Heartstone?"
She shook her head urgently, "No, No!"
"Stalkling?" Arrrgh asked.
"Is Bular in Trollmarket," Jim and I voiced our fears at the same time.
