IN BETWEEN — chapter ten
"He was here, he stopped by, he wanted to be here...but we were awkward"

4 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS

     Me and my sister were seated on the ground, wrapping up some presents. For an eight year old, she was good at wrapping the presents compared to me. However, that was because my mother taught her as I learned myself. Christmas music was playing, Jingle Bells, as my two other little sisters were dancing along in the living room. Moments like these is what made me the happiest with my family. Though, my dad was off in California, hoping he'd make it back to New York in time.

Bailey and David were coming in two days and I wanted everything to be perfect. Last years Christmas, Bailey didn't come, she was finishing up her filming on avatar three , as they filmed two and three a bit back to back.

"Blairrrr!" my mom calls out, "someone is knocking at the door! Would you mind?".

I groan silently before telling James I'd be back to help her with the Christmas presents once again. Quickly, I rush to the door and fix my hair before opening it....Jack.

He smiles at me nicely. "Blair, Hey! Is it cool if I stop by?".

"Oh—Um yeah-uh" I was at a loss of words. "Come in, we're wrapping up presents". I open the door wider before grabbing his coat and putting it on the rack. Then I make my way to where I was with James as he follows along and sits down with us.

James looks up at Jack but then looks at me. "Who is that".

"I'm Jack" he greets, "I'm your sisters—"

"—BOYFRIEND!" she gasps, as she claps her hands to congratulate me. I feel my face turn red, oh man, this wasn't good. No.

"Uh, no" Jack laughs, "no no no, she's a friend".

And that did really hurt.

"James" I start, "why don't you go help mom and Inez with the cookies, I know you love them!".

"Okay!" She mumbled, James waves a goodbye to Jack before rushing off into the kitchen. I felt the immediate awkwardness come into the room as we didn't speak. He was here, he stopped by, he wanted to be here...but we were awkward.

"I didn't know where to go" he starts, he picks up the wrapping paper and begins to help me wrap presents. "Bailey gave me your address in case I wanted to stop by...I should've asked you first".

I was shocked, honestly. His first thought was to come here instead of relaxing at a hotel to get some rest.

"Jack, no, that's totally okay" I reassure him. I hand him the tape to finish off the wrapping, "besides I was already almost done wrapping these presents and—"

"—oh" my mother interrupted. "hey kids, sorry, cookies are in the oven so feel free to get some when they're all done".

"Thank you mom". She smirks at me before walking away. My mom knew I liked Jack, I told her about it because Raine mentioned it once in a conversation. So, every time something new happened between us I would always tell my mother.
