IT WAS NOW 6PM. Louis and I were finished setting up the snack boards, baking the cookies, and setting out the presents under the tree. Our plan was to open presents at midnight because my mother had suggested it—the morning was a breakfast out at her favorite restaurant instead, with all of us tagging along. I loved when my mother and father included my friends in events because it made me feel extremely happy.
