My stomach turned into knots as he let out those two little words. He stayed silent. Why was he staying so silent, not a single reply back. I looked down to the ground and fiddled with my fingers as I still waited for his response, until I finally spoke up.

"I'm taking that as a no" i mumbled to myself, but made sure he clearly heard. I looked back at him and softly smiled. "I'm going to change".

He handed me my bag without saying a word. Was he actually not going to say anything? I stood there like an idiot, and I felt like one. As I quickly change into my regular clothes I brightly faked a smile as I walk to the register. As a matter of fact, I was going to get this dress. It was beautiful and if he was going to miss out, that was his loss.

"I didn't like the prom I went to last year" he finally spoke, as we walked out of the mall. This time I didn't say anything. "What if I don't like this one".

"Well there's my answer" I laughed, but it hurt. I played it off. "You don't have to go Jack. I'm not going to force you to go, okay?".

He sighs. "Now I just let you down. This is so stupid of me".

"Jack" I begin to say. "Stop it! I was just asking I wasn't forcing you. Besides we're friends and that's okay with me".

"Yeah!" He replies. "Gotcha".
