IN BETWEEN — CHAPTER ONE
( but in my wildest dreams i wanted more )

MANHATTAN , NEW YORK
— DECEMBER 2022

    I would be lying if I said I wasn't stressed out on my finals. Piles of work were all over my desk and the one thing I hated the most was overdoing my studying. Although, as a senior, taking three classes only, I had to give myself a pat on the back, not taking six classes instead. But in the end I just wanted to get this done with and finish high school once and for all.

    School was just the worst part of it, but it was my decision to head into school in the first place rather than just homeschooling. My parents, made sure it was the right decision, I constantly told them it was alright and I would ignore the other students.

   Luckily I had, Raine—she's one of my best friends that I met at school. Though she was the same, people only wanted to talk to her because of her music. I was glad Raine and I had met because I had felt alone at school.

   It was a Friday night, and I sat in bed as I scattered through my papers. I heard the door open and my head jolted up as I see both Raine and Bailey come into my room.

    "Blair!" they both say in unison.

   I softly smile at them, "what are you guys doing here? I'm sorry I told you guys this weekend wasn't the best to meet up".

    "Relax, Blair" my mother said, leaning towards the door with Inez, my little sister. "Bailey has this event and wants to know if you wanna come".

    "It's for my jewelry!" She excitedly says. "Also, this is the last time we can hang before I start press for Avatar. So I really wanna hang with you".

    I had forgotten about that. Bailey was leaving for Avatar press and wasn't gonna be back for a month or so.

    "That's right, your dinner" I frown, "I forgot I'm so sorry. Yeah, let me get dressed!".

    I quickly hop off my bed and run into my closet, Raine following behind me as she says, "wear that blue dress your mother got you!".

I walk over to the blue dress that was on the hanger and pick it up. It did seem dress worthy for Bailey's dinner, I smiled at Raine and went into the bathroom to change into it. I overheard Bailey telling Raine some of her cast mates were gonna be there..my heart sank.

As much as I wanted to ignore it and hope it wasn't Jack...at the same time I wanted him to be there. I had met Jack a few months ago and kind of grew a small crush on him...but we didn't speak a word to each other and I absolutely regret it.

    I look in the mirror and adjust my dress, then, make my way out, Raine turns around and gasps. "so cute! Sit down, I'll do your hair". She grabbed my arm and sat me down on my desk—adjusting my hair. "So, any updates, obviously other than school".

     "Ummm" I begin, thinking about what i actually have upcoming. "I have to film to continue filming tsitp soon since we took a break".

    "Oh fun!" Bailey replies, "of course as always tell David I say hello and that I miss him tons".

"You didn't invite him tonight?" I ask, "I thought you would've if he's here in New York".

Bailey shook her head, "no I did. He was just busy tonight helping his mom move into a new apartment. He didn't want to leave her by herself".

Understandable , Bailey and David were friends since grade school — from what she told me. The two were inseparable and I had no idea until we finished wrapping for the summer i turned pretty. Which, had been my first acting role as I decided to give it a shot.

Raine spent another good 40 minutes doing my hair as Bailey did my makeup. Honestly, I would have rather stayed here at home but I wanted to support Bailey on her jewelry line—it was pretty, and everything about it was cute.

"You guys look amazing!" Ryan said, as he stood by to open the door. "I don't know about you, Blair" he laughs.

"Thank you dad" I jokingly roll my eyes.

"Thank you, Ryan!" Bailey thanked. She waved goodbye at my parents and off we were.

Bailey's dinner theme was the ocean, which I loved about it, it also made sense because of Avatar and I thought it was a cute kick in to promote her movie and jewelry.

Raine and I stood by the jewelry, as we handed it out to everyone who came in. One after one , it seemed like a lot of people for such a small event.

Bailey quickly makes her way towards us with a bright smile on her face. "Guys! This is amazing, everyone here is so supportive".

"You did so well with this!" Raine says, giving her a hug. "These are so cute and I will be wearing them at all times".

"And I'll be giving it to my mother! She'll love this" the familiar voice from behind me says. My eyes widened and I glance at both Bailey and Raine, who were trying not to laugh. Bailey grabs my shoulders and turns me around, as I come face to face with Jack.

"Jack, you made it!" she jumps up with joy. "Me, Raine, and..of course Blair are excited you came".

"Geez I would hope so" he laughs. "Hey, Raine!".

"Hey!" she greets back.

Ouch? That actually hurt. Not a hi, sup, hello, for me.

"I actually really love this Avatar theme" Jack says, pointing out all the little details she had placed around. As he talked to Bailey and Raine I was moving away from them little by little, I felt upset, at the fact that he didn't even say hi to me. It was stupid, right? I was only overreacting. "The three of you guys look great!" He adds , "You really matched well with the theme...Blair?".

I softly mumbled a thank you. I wanted out of this situation and to go back home, study, cuddle with my cat, and forget about this moment. Because even if he knew my parents , he did not know a single thing about me and it was awful.

How would Jack, Jack Champion , ever , even at least become friends with me? But in my wildest dreams I wanted more.
