I woke up startled and, to add the salt to the wound, I felt sick like I needed to vomit. Olivia screeching was the next thing I heard after a couple of humane noises that sounded like grunts. I looked down from the tree that I was napping in for a couple minutes and there were two men, one with a sword, one with an arrow. They were wearing, no, they didn't come here though, hunting gear. I jumped up and landed on top of one as an elephant, probably killing him and attacked the man with the bow. Me being the dingus I am, forgot how to use an elephant so I had to retract back to my original form and shoot him back. Freya was laying down on a rock in the middle of the river, panting, and Olivia seemed to be attempting to guard her. I felt something sharp stab me in the gut but I kept shooting. An arrow eventually was skewered into his head and the man on the floor was definitely dead. I felt lightheaded, sick and dizzy. My vision blurred and my ears rung. No, not yet, I couldn't, I just made some progress! Life couldn't be this cruel? Right?
I groaned as I opened my eyes, half expecting to be in heaven or hell, definitely not in a tent that looked to be in a recovery camp.
"Wha-what?" I muttered as I tried to sit up but the same gut-stabbing feeling returned.
"Ella? Oh, I was half expecting you to be dead," Freya muttered as she sat down on a chair that was next to the bed I was laying in.
"Me too," I grunted a response. Freya sighed, "Olivia was worried, she wouldn't stop snapping at the abnormals that tried to help you." I chuckled a little.
"You got taller?" Freya asked and I stared at her in confusion.
"Wait what?" I replied.
"You were definitely not as tall as you are currently," Freya said again.
"Wait, how can you see?" I asked and Freya just shook her head.
"90% blind in the right and all blind in the left," she sighed, "I swear it's getting better somehow." She then got up and left. She had also left a bowl of soup where she sat and I grabbed it, examined the concoction and then drank it all up within fives seconds. It was nice and warm and didn't have much of a taste to it. I eventually hopped out of bed and it definitely seemed like I got taller. I look to my right, where a mirror is conveniently placed and stare in shock, I must of at least grown to 180cm because it looks like I'm fucking 27. I plod out of the cabin tent thing and shuffle over to the pool with Olivia and her talking to Freya.
"And the little shit's here," Freya predicted as she turned her head to me and I sat at the edge of the pool.
"I look 27," I mutter to myself traumatized.
"You act like a newborn child," Freya added, "Anyways, we were discussing about the run away abnormal from the lab."
"What lab?" I question.
"The lab, the only one that has abnormals in it? You don't know?" Freya asked.
"No?"
"Anyways, one of the captures ran off,"
"How?"
"There was a breach with the new containment,"
"Why?"
"It spread some kind of plant thing and it broke the doors, it tried to get out but it was too heavily guarded,"
"Oh,"
"Anyways, I was told it's not too far from here,"
"What? You want to find it?" I stammered.
"Yeah, help the abnormals," Freya responded and I nodded.
