Warning for those that care⚠️
*I haven't fully read the books and don't have a lot of time on my hands to do that much research. This chapter touches on and delves a little deeper into each character's past. I've done some vague online digging for those backstories not mentioned in the movies and am going off of that to explain things to the unknowing Elizabeth. If you've read the books and things are wrong let me know and I'll correct it. Or if you know something needed to be mentioned but wasn't, please don't feel hesitant to say so.
⚠️Trigger warning as well⚠️
Mentions of abuse, near death, prohibition (not namely but insinuated), alcohol intoxication, smoking, crude language, mild anxiety and gangs. (Not necessarily in that order)Esme puts a plate together for me and leads me to the dining room with a bar top-like table just outside of the kitchen. Jasper takes the seat next to me as I start to take small bites of the food, not feeling entirely comfortable eating around them yet as I barely eat around them as it is.
"So Liz, Jasper tells us you like the woods." Esme starts off as the normal family tradition of grilling the kids significant other begins. I nod taking some pasta up on my fork and carefully putting it to my mouth.
I cover my face as I respond. "I do. I love nature. I wouldn't wanna go hiking in the wilderness but take me camping for a few days and I'd love it." I swallow what I'm chewing and get ready for the next question.
"What are some other things you like to do on your spare time?" Carlisle inquires this time. "Oh I like to read, write a little bit, sing my heart out to anything on the radio and dance somewhat too." I answer as I take another small forkful in my mouth. I make sure to chew and swallow quickly before answering the next question thrown my way.
"What's your favorite genre to read?" Esme looks on at me in curiosity. "Well I like a good murder mystery or a romance novel. Although there is this one 2 book series that combines the two and I love it."
"Oh really, what's it called?" Back to Carlisle. "Oh it's umm, it's called 'The Body in the Woods'." I clear my throat slightly at the fact that the name of the book doesn't leave much to the imagination.
The family doesn't seem as taken aback as others have when I've brought up the book title.
"What's it about?" Rose asks seemingly interested in the details of such a titled book.
"Well these high schoolers are training under professional detectives in this teen detective training program and while out on a minor runaway call they're searching a wooded area around an empty parking lot looking for this missing kid and the main girl comes across the body of a young girl. While this is going on though the main girl falls for a young detective on the case and he helps her solve the mystery and deal with life problems while winning her heart and vise versa." I summarize for those listening and suddenly feel very aware of the amount of eyes on me, even if the majority of them are usually on me anyways.
*the description of what happened in that book might not be completely accurate as I haven't read the book in about 2 years and I wanted to go off of what I could remember😅 I may change it later on*
Jasper seems to notice my sudden wave of anxiety as he pulls my chair closer to his slinging his right arm around my tense body. The people around me nod not paying much attention to my clearly changed attitude and atmosphere.
"That sounds like a good book, do you think I could borrow your copy?" Alice asks hopeful. "I mean if you don't mind writings in the margins or highlighted stuff." She looks at me questioningly. "Sorry, I just like writing down my varied thoughts on different things happening in books." I can feel my cheeks tint as I talk about one of my passions.
