CH26-Keep You Safe

We hurriedly get to the vehicle as Jas moves to open my passenger door quickly and allows me to climb in. "You good?" He asks allowing me to nod before he shuts the door and moves to the drivers side.

Edward flings the backdoor open for Bella and moves her quickly into the backseat.

He clambers in after her shutting the door behind him and tries to buckle her in himself. "Ok, I've got it! I've got it! I'm all right!" She exclaims feeling scared herself I'm sure.

Jas gets in, starts the car and quickly moves into reverse and out of the clearing. "What, now he's coming after us?" I ask looking at Jas for an answer.

He ignores the question focusing on getting us back out of the rough terrain. Edward decides it's best to answer. "Listen to me. James is a tracker." He starts.

"The hunt is his obsession. I read his mind, Jasper could read his emotions. He was interested the minute he entered that field and caught sight of you two." He continues.

Jasper focuses eerily quiet on driving through the forest. His speed hasn't let up since we left the clearing. I place my hand on his closest to me on the steering wheel. He doesn't seem to take much notice.

"Our reactions at the field set him off. We just made this his most exciting game ever. He's never gonna stop." Edward finishes.

"What should we do?" Bella asks.

"We have to kill him." Jasper finally says. "Rip him apart and burn the pieces."

"Where are we going?" I ask looking at Jas expectantly hoping that he's going to continue to communicate.

"Away from Forks." He answers. "We'll get a ferry to Vancouver."

"No. We have to go home. Now." I state.

"You have to take us home." Bella says moving forward between the seats as she can get.

"You girls can't go home. He's just gonna track your scent there." Edward responds.

"It's the first place he's gonna look." Jas finishes for him.

"But our dad is there. We-" Jas cuts me off. "It doesn't matter!"

"Yes it does! He could get killed because of us!" Bella exclaims at him.

"Just let him get you out of here first, all right?" Edward pleads.

"It's our dad! We have to go back!" I urge with Jasper. "Please." I squeeze his hand causing him to look at me with dark eyes.

His glare softens but his eyes are a darker brown than they usually are. I'm surprised I'm just now noticing. They must've been like that since the encounter.

"We'll figure a way to lead the tracker away somehow. I don't know but we have to do something." I say firmly. We seem to be finally out of the woods as Jasper turns onto a road. We're heading back into town.

"Wait, we can't just go in and tell him that a vampire is hunting us." I turn back to Bella who ponders what I said. "We gotta come up with something."

"Quickly because we're not staying for long and we'll be at your house shortly." Jas says not letting up his speed by much.

"What if we had a fight?" Edward offers.

"What?" Bella whips around to face him.

"What if you tell him we had a fight. You need to get out of town. Tell him that Liz is going with you to keep you safe. Tell him you're going to visit your mom for a few days." Edward explains his thought.
