Its Saturday and Austin and I are driving up to the school for my detention. Hopefully they don't mind that he is there. When we get there we go to my Physics room. The teacher is in there.
"Sadie, thank you for coming." He says.
"It's not like I really had a choice." I say.
"Yes I know, but a lot of kids still don't show up." He tells me.
"Is it okay if my friend is here?" I ask.
"I guess."
"So is there anything specific you want us to do or are we just going to sit for three hours?" I ask.
"Oh no, you're going to be doing stuff."
He pulls out two scrapers and hands them to us.
"Starting with scraping the gum off of the bottom of every desk in my room. I'll be in the computer lab if you need me." He says then leaves the room.
I look at Austin.
"This is all your fault." I say.
"Hey, at least I'm here to help you, you could be doing it by yourself." He says.
We start to scrape the gum off the desks.
"This is so gross." I say.
"What would you say if I ate a piece?" He asks.
"Please don't." I say.
"Why not?" He teases.
"I would most likely never kiss you again." I say.
"Well thats a good enough reason for me."
"Eww! You were actually going to do it?"
"No! Im not dumb! That would be disgusting."
"Exactly my point."
Within forty-five minutes we are done cleaning the gum off all of the bottoms of the desks.
"What now?" I ask.
"Well, the teacher isn't in here, so we could walk around the school." Austin suggests.
"Do you want to get me in even more trouble?!" I ask.
"You wont get in trouble. You can just tell him you didn't know which computer lab he was in." He says.
"Fine, but if I get in more trouble-
"You won't Sade." He interrupts.
So we start walking around the school. We get to the gym and Austin goes in.
"Ooo look somebody forgot to put a basketball up."
He goes and picks up.
"Wanna play a one on one game?" He asks.
"Sure, but uhh you're going down." I say.
"Oh really?"
"Yes," i say, taking the ball from him. "Really."
I start to dribble towards the hoop. I shoot it to the basket but it doesn't go in.
"Wow, yeah you're definitely going to beat me." He teases.
"Shut up!" I say.
He takes the ball and starts dribbling, he shoots and makes it in the basket.
"Now thats how you do it." He says.
"I know how to do it." I say, taking the ball from him.
I dribble again and this time when I shoot it, it goes into the basket.
"Thats was..better." He says.
"That was amazing, I got nothing but net." I say.
"Alright, i'll give that one to you." He says.
He takes the ball and starts to dribble. I try to stop him but my shoe gets caught on the ground, making me trip and fall. Pain shoots through my ankle.
"Oww! My ankle!" I yelp.
"Come on Sade, that's the oldest trick in the book, you really think I'm going to fall for that?" He asks.
"Austin, I'm not joking around." I say.
He quickly drops the ball and kneels by my side.
"Is it the ankle you broke?" He asks.
I nod, biting my lip so the tears don't come out. He touches it and I wince.
"That hurt?" He asks.
I nod again.
He scoops me up in his arms then goes and sets me on the bleachers.
"You stay right here, i'll go find the teacher." He says.
"Okay." I say.
He leaves. My ankle is throbbing, it feels like someone is sticking a knife into it. I really hope I didn't break it again. Soon Austin comes back with the teacher. He looks at my ankle.
"I don't think its broken, but you should go to the doctor." He says.
"Could I take her right now?" Austin asks.
"Yes. Don't worry about the detention, you scrapped the gum off the desk and thats enough." He says.
"Thank you." I say.
"Just don't let me catch you texting in my class again." He tells me.
"Yes sir." I say.
Austin helps me up. He puts my arm around his neck and wraps his arm around my waist to support me. We walk to his car. He helps me get in then he gets in and we head to the hospital. When we get there we have to wait for a bit then we go in. The doctor looks at my ankle. Every time he touches it I wince in pain.
"Its not broken, but you need to put a brace on it and use crutches for about three weeks." He tells me.
I nod.
"Do you have crutches at home?" He asks.
"Yes." I say.
"What about a brace?"
"No."
"Okay, let me go get one for you really fast." He says, then leaves.
"Gosh I hate crutches." I say.
"Yeah, maybe you should have thought of that before you tripped over nothing." He says.
I gasp.
"Im kidding." He says, coming over to give me a hug.
"No don't touch me!" I say.
He chuckles. Soon the doctor comes back in and puts the brace on my ankle.
"Okay you guys are good to go." He says.
Then he leaves the room. Austin turns his back to me and puts his arms behind him.
"Get on." He says.
"I am not going through the hospital on your back." I say.
"Why not?" He asks.
"Its embarrassing."
"So your embarrassed by me." He states.
"That is not at all what i said."
"Sade just get on." He says.
I sigh and get on his back.
"Only you would walk through a hospital with someone on your back." I say.
"True." He says.
We go through the hospital and go to Austin's car. He sets me inside then goes to the drivers side and gets in. Then we start to drive home.
"So i've been working on some new songs." He tells me.
"Is that why Mike wants you to go back in a month?" I ask.
"Yeah. We have to start recording." He says.
"I want to hear them." I tell him.
"Okay, I have them on my laptop, I can show you when we get home." He says.
We get to the house and Austin carries me inside and sets me on the couch.
"Sadie! What happened?" Heather asks, walking over to me.
"She tripped over air." Austin says.
"Shut up! My rubber flat got caught on the wood floor in the gym and made me trip. I just sprained my ankle." I say.
"Is it the one you broke." She asks.
"Yeah."
"You better stay on your crutches until you are supposed to get off them." She tells me.
"I'll make sure she does that." Austin says.
"How long do you have to be on crutches?" She asks.
"Three weeks." I say.
"Okay, well please don't do anything else to hurt it." She says.
"I wont, thank you Heather." I say.
She smiles then goes to her room.
"Songs?" I ask Austin.
"Oh yeah." He says.
He goes upstairs then comes back down with his laptop. He shows me all the songs he has so far.
"I really like that one." I say pointing to one called Torture.
"Its about you." He says.
I nod.
"So you wrote it while we were away from each other." I state.
"Yup." He says.
"Its a really pretty song." I say.
"Thank you. I like it a lot too."
"Can you go get Taco Bell?" I ask.
He smiles.
"Only if you promise not to get up from the couch." He says.
"Fine, I promise." I say.
"Okay, i'll be right back." He says.
So he leaves and I stay on the couch. I decide I want to watch an episode of The Vampire Diaries on Netflix. This is seriously the best show ever. Im totally team Stelena. Paul Wesley is just so beautiful. Soon I hear the door open and close, but i don't take my eyes off of the tv. Im too into the show.
"Sadie." Austin says.
"Shhhhh!"
After a few more minutes the episode ends.
"Oh..my..gosh. I just can't with this show. It brings out so many emotions." I say.
"You want your food now?" Austin asks.
"Yes please." I say.
He sets it down in front of me.
"Thank you." I say, beaming up at him.
"Sade you can't do that." Austin says, looking away.
"Do what?" I ask then take a bite of my burrito.
"You can't be cute. It tempts me too much." He says.
"Well I'm sorry, it's not like I can help it. You're the one who tells me I'm cute, I'm not even aware of it until you point it out." I say.
"So you're saying I should stop thinking you're cute?" He asks.
"Yes." I say.
He chuckles and comes sits next to me.
"I don't think thats possible."
"Then don't complain about it." I say.
"How come you don't ever get tempted to kiss me?" He asks.
"Who said i didn't?" I ask.
He looks at me, confused.
"I just have better self control then you. And I don't bring it up when I'm thinking about it." I say.
"Well it would help if you showed that you still want to be with me, because it doesn't really feel like it."
"Austin, don't even think that, of course i want to be with you." I say.
"Im sorry." He says.
"It's okay. I know that the day you leave is getting closer and you're worried we won't start dating until after your gone. But I promise, it will happen before you leave." I say.
He nods.
"Okay, I believe you."
