"...Say, these are really delicious."
Kasumi smiles widely, almost proud.
"Well, these buns are baked fresh every day!", she huffs. "Aaand, they're cheap for highschoolers like us!"
S/N raises an eyebrow. "You mean Saya gives you guys free buns everyday at lunch?"
"A-ah."
As we walk down the sidewalk, I glance over at the houses besides us. Remembering the last time our house received a noise complaint, I give a 'shh' motion to Kasumi and S/N.
"Quiet. You already know the neighbours don't like us."
S/N's smiles turns into a frown.
"Us? You mean they don't like you."
"I'm not the one who caused that noise complaint. Last time I checked, they actually like me. It's you they don't like."
Pausing for a second, S/N sighs then pouts, not in a genuinely-upset way, but an exaggerated-not-actually-mad way. Kasumi giggles.
"I've never seen S/N-chan act like this! It's kinda cute!"
Similar to S/N, I also raise an eyebrow, smirking. "Trust me, it isn't."
"Hey~!" S/N says, fake-hitting me.
S/N and I snicker as Kasumi takes another bite of a Pineapple Bun I bought.
"You sure you don't want this?"
"It's fine," I answer. "I'm already full from eating her food."
"Alright~!"
...
...
As we arrive at our house we all stop walking. I briefly remember my first moments of meeting Marina, then blink. I reach into my pocket, grabbing my keys.
"Ooh. So this is your house, S/N-chan."
S/N makes a face at Kasumi that I can't quite make out in the dark. "There's nothing special though?"
Kasumi shakes her head. "I was just curious, since you always drop me off at my house when we walk home from school."
S/N stops for a second, then shrugs. I swear I hear her mutter "that's true".
I turn to Kasumi. "Well, thanks for taking care of my sister, as always. It was a pleasure meeting all of you guys."
Kasumi smiles widely. "It was nice meeting you too! I have a feeling that we're going to be meeting each other again soon!"
"I hope that's a good thing."
Kasumi giggles. As S/N and I start to walk towards our house, we stop.
"Oh, should we walk you home, Toyama-san?"
"No, it's okay!" She points towards where we were walking from. "My house is just a few minutes over there!"
"I thought I already said that," S/N says smugly.
"Shut up." I lightly tap her on the head.
"Ow~"
Kasumi waves to us with both hands, then begins to jog towards herh house, her hair illuminated by nearby street lights.
...Cat ears?
...
We both stare at each other.
"...she says that it's supposed to be shaped like 'stars', but..."
I make a face. "It's cat ears."
"Right?! I never want to say it, but I always think it is."
*Click!*
As we enter through the front door, we both lazily throw our jackets onto the nearby dinner table. Mom and Dad are coming home in a few hours, and they don't really care.
"I'm going to sleep. Make sure you sleep too, right?"
"Okay~."
...
...
"Hey, Onii~?"
"Hm?"
...
Curious, I walk over to her room.
"Yeah?"
She looks down, softly smiling. "...Today was fun. A lot of fun."
I also smile. "It's been a while, since the two of us had fun together, huh?"
"Yeah..."
...
Ever since the school year started, we've both been so overwhelmed with work that we've rarely ever spent time together. Along with Mom and Dad taking more business trips outside of the city for their work, it's been rough these past few months.
...I try not to think about it too much, but I'm not sure how S/N has been handling it. Seeing her have fun with her friends is comforting, at least.
As I look at S/N again, her smile warps into a wicked smirk.
"Hey, it's been a while since I've seen you smile like that. It's kinda gross."
I furrow my eyebrows, then roll my eyes.
"Go to sleep."
I close her room door. Sighing, I walk to my bedroom. Making sure to plug my phone in, I quickly collapse into my bed.
...Yeah, today was fun. It was nice meeting Toyama-san and everyone else.
I still have this small feeling of dread that everything is going to go wrong but...
...
...
...
...oh well.
