Chapter EightLiam's POV
It was around 3AM when I was awoken by all of the machines ringing and nurses running in, followed by Dr Hall.
One of the nurses came over to me and told me I had to wait outside I didn't want to I just wanted to stay by his side, but yet again I knew I don't have an option and the best thing I could do was wait outside and let them do their jobs, there is nothing worse than being helpless to the one you love.
A few minutes later Dr Hall came out and told me that Joe needed an emergency scan on his brain as he believes that he may have developed a bleed.
He then went on to say, that I could stay with him until he has to be prepped and taken for his scan. With that I walked into his room whilst wiping my tears away. As I walked in I couldn't help but notice how peaceful he looked, and sat back down beside him.
"babe, you really need to stop scaring me now, I really need to tell you something when you wake up, I have said before but I know there is a chance you didn't hear me, I want to tell you ' I love you' whilst looking in to your amazing ocean blue eyes" I whispered to him as I reach out and place my hand over his. Out of the blue, I felt Joe squeezing my hand. I became overrun with emotions as a single tear fell down cheek, I quickly pressed the nurse call button, moments later, a nurse came in and asked me what was wrong, I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear and say:
"He is squeezing my hand," I told her as she came walking over.
The nurse put her hand on Joe's.
"Joe, lovely if you can hear me squeeze my hand" She said.
And with that he gave her a slight squeeze. She smiled and called Dr. Hall in and told him.
He began to run some observations, whilst he was doing so Joe's eyes began to flutter open, squinting slightly then squeezing shut from what I assumed was from the bright lights.
"Can you dim the lights, please. I think they're hurting his eyes," I requested as I inched forward on my seat, eager to see those blue eyes once more.
The nurse smiled at me with a quick nod, and a few seconds later, the lights in the room where a lot less bright.
"Come on, babe, try again," I coaxed, giving his hand a squeeze, hoping I could encourage him.
I could see Dr. Hall from the corner of my eye hovering over the other side of the bed, taking more notes but I could tell he was waiting on Joe to open his eyes.
My breath caught in my throat when a soft groan left Joe's lips and his eyes, once more, began to open, revealing those baby blue eyes, I had fantasised over many times. I watched as Joe's gaze flickered around the room, my smile widened when he finally glanced at me.
"Hi, there," I greet, "it's about time you woke up. You had me so scared, never do that again okay?" I chuckled, my voice shaking from holding back emotions.
I watch the lines furrow between his brow, and I'm tempted to run my fingers over his head to smooth them out.
"I'm sorry, didn't want you to see all that. You stayed?" Joe asked me, his confusion clearly heard and his voice slightly hoax from not speaking, "erm, can I have some water, please?"
Reaching over I grabbed the cup of water the nurse had left earlier with a straw and held it up to his lips.
"Of course I stayed!" I reply, after setting the cup back on the table after a few sips.
I knew that I shouldn't have been offended that he asked me, I have honestly not given him any reasons to trust me over the years, and I don't blame him, but after what happened tonight, I sort of hoped that he had began to see the real me and how truly sorry I was, I won't tell him, but it hurt that he doubted I would stay.
