Alessio gave Caio two days off, and we spent it cuddled in the bed watching movies, and talking about things we wanted or missed. As I watched him dress for the day, now going back to his normal work, I sighed.
"Matteo, don't do that. We talked about this," Caio said. Before he kissed me, his lips lingering on mine.
"What if he comes by while you're gone and I don't know what to do?"
"Matteo, Vito is still just Vito. You've known him your entire life. Nothing about his personality changes because he's your father. If anything, he might be a little nicer to you, but that's it."
"I don't want him to be nicer. I just want him to forget all about it." I whined.
"That isn't going to happen, so find something to do with your day."
"I'll probably go bother Alessio. Make him listen to me whine. This is his fault."
"It's not his fault, but I'm sure he would appreciate your help. It's Monday, so you can find him in the clinic until two p.m. While you're there, maybe speak with Dr Martin."
I rolled my eyes at him, feeling attacked.
"I saw that, Matteo."
"Good, then you know my feelings towards that."
Caio grabbed my chin and gave me a long kiss before he left. I groaned, not really wanting to leave the wing. But it wasn't healthy to hide here. Getting dressed, I stole a long sleeve out of the closet and pulled it on. Grabbing my pants from the spare room, I yanked them on and tucked my phone into the pocket. Ignoring shoes like normal, I left the wing. I avoided everyone on my way out and as far as I was concerned, that was the main goal here.
Alessio was stocking things when I arrived.
"Finally done isolating yourself?" He asked, turning to look at me.
"I needed a few days, just for Caio and I."
"That's alright, I understand needing those days." He said, smiling softly.
"Caio suggested speaking with Dr Martin."
"For sure, that is a good idea, but he's not around for the next few days. He and his partner went away with their children for a week's vacation."
"That's fine. I came to whine to you, not Dr Martin."
"Lucky me." He chuckled.
I helped him put things away, where he was telling me to put them. He had so much stuff to organize and put away. The worst part of it all was that he was a neat freak about it. It had to be the way he wanted, or he was unhappy with it.
"How's Ilya doing?" I asked.
"I went to see him last night, to change his sleeping pill dosage, and he seemed perfectly fine. Vito was—--" Alessio paused, and looked at me. "Sorry, we don't have to talk about him right now."
"What about Vito?" I asked.
"He was quiet, and drawn in, but Ilya seemed unbothered by his behaviour. He only said a few words to me the entire time I was there."
"I hurt his feelings when I denied him."
"Probably. But you have that right, and he has the right to his feelings too. She lied to him for nineteen years. Either she knew, or she just didn't care to actually know, Matteo."
"Caio told me when you found out, you didn't handle the news well."
Alessio paused and pulled his hand through his hair, something he did often. "Yeah. Caio's right. I freaked out about it. The only reason I didn't force her to say something was because I didn't need Vito blowing up, and Mom blowing up, and just levelling everything."
