Lev was the first one to get to us, and Ilya didn't speak to him. He ignored Lev the entire time he questioned him. Ilya was going to need stitches in his hand right along his thumb. Alessio got to us ten minutes later, and Vito was with him. He looked groggy and disoriented, but he was walking. Alessio took right over, removing the towel and looking at his hand.
"Well, What do you have to say for yourself?" Alessio asked.
Ilya ignored him the same as he did Lev, and that pissed Alessio off. You could see it, but he didn't react.
"You're lucky the dosage that I gave you for sleeping pills is geared for your body weight, and that Vito is twice your weight. You could have seriously hurt him by putting him to sleep with your medication."
Lev said something to Ilya in Russian, and his eyes widened in fear. Alessio reached for him and he drew back away from Alessio and Lev. He scrambled as far back into the kitchen as he could and wrapped his arms around his head and completely tucked in on himself. The towel lay on the floor a couple feet away from Ilya as he was actively bleeding all over the floor and himself.
"What the hell did you say to him?" Alessio snapped. Lev leaned down and whispered into his ear and Alessio hissed. "Lev, you know he is terrified of that."
Vito moved slowly, the drugs still having an effect on him, he grabbed the towel and grabbed Ilya's injured arm and wrapped it up, the whole time Ilya tried to shove him away and Vito pulled him close, and I watched Ilya bite into his shoulder. Ilya screamed in all three tongues as he spoke. Begging Vito not to lock him in the dark room and he was sorry.
"Alessio, Stick him." Vito said, and Alessio pulled out a needle, pulling the cap off, and Vito held Ilya still, and Alessio injected him. He stopped screaming and eventually went completely limp in Vito's arms.
"What did you do!" I asked, alarmed.
"I sedated him. He is fine. I wouldn't hurt him intentionally." Alessio said, before asking Lev to take Ilya while Vito was still under the influence of the sleeping medication. I grabbed Vito's hand and looked at him.
"Please don't punish Ilya. He doesn't understand. He was trying to keep Caio from hurting me, and he did it because I'm your child and he's in love with you." I blurted out without thinking twice about it. Panic settling in when I realized what I said. "I didn't mean that. I meant that he cares for you and—---"
"I know, Matteo." He said, before following behind Alessio and Lev.
Caio and I spent the next hour cleaning up blood before he stopped, and I watched him.
"Matteo, forgive me. My actions last night were terrible. And I know it. I left you without your phone, without safety, without the knowledge to come home. You spent hours sleeping in the tub because you hurt my feelings, and I locked you out. I know how terrible my actions are and were."
"Caio, while I appreciate and accept your apology, I'm not forgiving you."
He nodded and went back to work. Instead of going back to work cleaning the floor, too, I just watched him. If we didn't figure out a balance, this was going to be over quicker than it started, and I wasn't sure if I could bear that.
"Go check on Ilya and your dad. I'll finish here. Thank you for talking him down."
I nodded, before going and getting changed, and leaving. But instead of leaving, I stopped at the end of the hall and turned around. Heading back to the wing, I let myself inside, and Caio was sitting on the floor, just looking at his hands.
"Caio?"
He looked up and spoke. "You should stay with Vito. I really fucked up last night. You could have been killed or taken last night and there would have been no one to blame but myself."
