Caio and I left just after lunch, neither of us wanting food. We both just stripped down and crawled into the cool, dark bed. I put the pillow between us for Caio to be comfortable, and he yanked it out of the way.

"Seriously? My hands have been around your dick, and I have buried my cock inside you. I don't think the pillow is doing any good there now." He chuckled.

"Caio, did you see the way that Ilya looks at Vito? Sorry to ruin the moment, but god, I know that look far too well."

"I saw the way he watched him. It's the same look you give me sometimes, and I know that won't end well for Ilya. Vito is respectful of others' life choices, but I can't be sure that he won't flip out if Ilya acts on those feelings."

"I hated the way Ilya was content to die at the hands of Vito." I whispered.

"I protected Ilya because he protected you. Again, I'm not a fan of his because of the first time we met. I had to shoot him. I've never seen anyone as completely lost as he was, as wild. He is very slowly getting better, and even I have to acknowledge that."

"What happened to you thinking he should have been killed?" I asked, already knowing the answer.

"He protected you."

"I knew you would say that."

"That being said, I still think he is dangerous, but I think you should be ok. He killed for you, for your wellbeing. If that makes sense." Caio hummed.

I rolled over and laid on his chest.

"I never thought this would be real, Caio. Even in all my dreams, we weren't this close." I whispered, before pressing a kiss to the peck I was lying on. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me completely on top of him.

"Your brother and Lev can make things work. I have faith in this." He said, his eyes showing his honesty and concerns.

"Any time I get to be like this with you, I will hold close. Every second is a blessing. I know this," I whispered.

"You're such a romantic. It's cute, but funny when I think about how you shunned any kind of PDA as a kid." Caio chuckled.

"Someone special can change all that, Caio." I said, embarrassed that he was bringing that up here and now. The thought of my father suddenly passed through my head, and I frowned. "Caio, I remember the day we met. I remember the day you came to protect Alessio from my father. I remember thinking that you might hurt him, too. I was young when my father started to hurt Alessio, but I knew what he was doing. Often he tried to use me to take Alessio's spot as head of the family. I'm glad Alessio took it. I didn't want to be the head of the family, ever. I want to be useful to Alessio, though."

"Matteo, your father was—---"

"A monster, Caio, my father was a monster and got everything he deserved. I won't defend that man, not even on a chilly day in hell. I was never happier than when Alessio came here. He was safe, and his father was everything mine was not."

"Your brother has gained a lot being here, but so have you. You have Alessio's family. They have time and time again tried to bring you into the family."

"I know nothing about my own father, Caio. Did you know that?" I said, truthfully. "I think I might have Alessio do DNA testing on me and see if there's anything I can learn about my father's side."

"Just ask Vito, he was friends with—--"

"Why can't I just use my DNA?"

"I mean, you can. I just don't know if that will give you the information you're looking for." Caio said, closing his eyes and letting out a breath, avoiding my gaze for a moment.
