History:
King Xen and Queen Ziyin of Atman had been blessed with a daughter after years of difficulty, a girl they named Zaila. At the time of her birth, the Fire Nation with help from the Andrastian Chantry invaded Atman killing the king and queen, but Zaila was spared when she was rescued by Shakra, a maid in the palace, who smuggled the baby out of the palace.
- The Chantry is against the Vesani because of their links to the Fade and spirit magic/bending.
Following these events, a great sadness fell upon the Kingdom of Atman at the loss of the royal family and the control the Fire Nation then had over them. This control would eventually lead to the Vesani all being killed and Atman being completely destroyed.
Zaila was raised by Shakra who kept the girl's true identity a secret from her, raising her as if she were her own daughter. They lived a life of servitude among the Fire Nation, with Shakra working in the Royal Plaza.
At some point in her childhood, whilst at the Royal Plaza with Shakra, Zaila met and was befriended by Zuko. The two of them found comfort as friends when no one else around them showed them any true kindness.
Shakra was later punished for Zaila's connection and interactions with Zuko. She was locked away in the dungeons, leaving a young Zaila to fend for herself.
