Audelia's POV:
The sharp bite of the Winter wind seeped through my jacket, causing a shiver to run down my spine. I carefully placed the last box into the trunk of my car, grateful for the help of Krist and Kurt. ,,Thanks guys," I mumbled, closing the door with a satisfying click. ,,No problem, honey," Krist replied, his usual smile lighting up his face.
,,Yeah, it was no big deal. Just remember to call us every day at six pm like you promised," Kurt chimed in, pulling a cigarette from his pocket and searching for a lighter. ,,Here, take mine," I offered, already knowing that Kurt never had a lighter on him. He accepted it with a mumble of thanks before lighting his cigarette and taking a deep drag. The smoke mingled with the cold air, creating an eerie mist around us as we stood by my car. Despite the chill in the air, I couldn't help but feel warm inside, surrounded by these two reliable friends who always had my back.
,,Well, I'm heading inside," Krist said as he hugged me from behind and stepped into the house. The strain of carrying boxes had left him tired, but he was eager to finish the movie we had started. ,,It just got interesting, you know?" I chuckled and called after him, ,,Enjoy the movie, you giant." His only response was a playful middle finger.
,,Do you really have to move?" Kurt asked, still smoking his cigarette. ,,Yes, I do. You know how much I love you and Krist, but I can't stay in this place any longer. I need to get out, at least for a while. But I promise I'll come back to visit on my 18th birthday. ,,I replied, looking at Kurt as I snatched the cigarette from his mouth. ,,Hey, that's mine!" He protested, trying to grab it back.
,,Well technically speaking, it was my lighter you used so it's also mine in a way." I retorted with a smirk, quickly moving out of his reach and protecting my cigarette. ,,Yeah sure," Kurt mumbled under his breath. ,,Hmm what was that?" I asked teasingly.
,,Oh nothing at all, princess." He replied with a sly grin. ,,So now I'm a princess?" I raised an eyebrow at him with a smile. ,,Oh yes, and a talented one at that," Kurt said, causing me to roll my eyes playfully. ,,What? You don't believe me?" He questioned innocently.
,,No, I do believe you," I responded proudly as I sat down next to Kurt and rested my head on his shoulder. ,,At least I'm more talented at playing guitar than you are." Kurt chuckled and patted my head gently. ,,Yeah whatever makes you feel better." I playfully punched his arm and grinned mischievously.
With a heavy heart, I snuggled closer to him, feeling the warmth of his body and the familiar scent of his cologne. In my hand, I pulled out another cigarette, one of our shared vices. As he lit it for me with my own lighter, I inhaled deeply, experiencing the comforting sensation of smoke filling my lungs.
,,I promise I'll call you, without fail. And I'll write to you too, more letters than you can count," I murmured between exhales. ,,You better," he teased, but there was a hint of seriousness in his tone.
We sat there in silence for a few minutes, enjoying each other's company and the quiet night air. Eventually, I stirred and stood up from the bench to face Kurt. ,,I should probably head inside now. Are you going home or staying over?" I asked.
,,Dad wants me home tonight for some random reason," he replied with a shrug. ,,But I'll see you tomorrow before you leave, right?"
,,Of course. I wouldn't dream of leaving without saying goodbye to you," I said as we hugged. ,,Goodnight, Sunshine," he said with a small smile before letting go and watching me walk towards the house. Inside, I called out for Krist while closing the door behind me. He responded from the living room, where I found him lounging on the sofa.
