THE NEWBIE

'I''I''I''I''I''I'

CHARLOTTE WINSLOW TOOK A DEEP BREATH TO CALM DOWN HER GROWING NERVES WHILE WALKING TOWARDS THE GLASS DOOR. It was still hard for her to believe, that two weeks ago Aaron Hotchner and Jason Gideo offered her a spot on the FBI's Behavioural Analysis Unit and she accepted it. It was a tough spot to get even to the people who had extensive experience and many years in the FBI, but Charlotte was lucky enough to join the BAU straight out of the Academy and get the offer when she had a couple of weeks left on her training program. Nevertheless, she felt truly honoured to have been seen by them.

The brown-haired girl pulled the glass door open and walked straight into BAU's bullpen. Her eyes started to scan everything she saw in front of her. There were a few people near the coffee machine in the small office kitchen, holding mugs in their hands and talking about something. A couple of agents were sitting at their desks and filling in the paperwork while the others were scattered around the bullpen and doing their own stuff.

Charlotte needed to find Aaron Hotchner's office so she could pick up her badge and gun and find out where a desk, assigned to her, was. She looked around the bullpen and bit her bottom lip when she realized she had to ask someone for directions to his office. Charlotte Winslow was not shy, but the first day nervousness was getting to her. Also, she felt anxious and could not shake the feeling that everyone was already judging her and deciding to stay away from her even tho she just entered through the door a minute ago.

" Excuse me, " Charlotte walked towards three women who were talking among themselves. Two blondes and one dark-haired looked at her with curious eyes when they heard her voice.  " Can you tell me where to find Agent Hotchner's office? "

" Hi, you must be our new SSA Charlotte Winslow, " one of the blondes smiled at her, recognizing her from the file she saw a few days ago. Charlotte nodded. " I am Jennifer Jareau, but everyone here calls me JJ, " she extended her right arm for the newcomer to shake. A friendly smile appeared on Charlotte's face and she shook JJ's extended arm.

" This is Penelope Garcia, our technical analyst, and one of the SSAs Elle Greenaway, " JJ introduced the women, who were standing next to her and with whom she was talking until Charlotte politely interrupted. Charlotte extended her arm to Penelope, but the blonde just smiled and shook her head.

" I'm a hugger, not a shaker, " the woman, wearing a colourful dress, pulled her new co-worker into a gentle hug. Charlotte did not expect it, but she gratefully accepted a hug from Penelope Garcia. When she pulled back, she shook hands with Elle.

The brown-haired girl felt a little bit less nervous when she met her three new co-workers, but she knew that this was all they were going to be. It did not matter if the women were friendly now. They did not see the true Charlotte Winslow yet. No one wanted to be friends with her when they saw how smart and nerdy she was. School, college, workplace - everyone stayed away from her. This is why she did not expect anything else in this job too.

" Nice to meet you, " Charlotte smiled.

" It's nice to meet you too! It's always wonderful to have new people in this team, " Penelope's eyes shone with excitement. Charlotte only met her a few seconds ago but she already liked the woman with the colourful dress, red high heels and glasses. Maybe this time would be different. Maybe she would make at least one friend.

" Right, I should get this to Hotch, " JJ showed them a few paper cases she was holding in her left arm and then looked at Charlotte who was standing near her. " Come with me. I will show you the way to his office. "

Charlotte started to follow JJ to the stairs. She could not say that it was a second floor because it was not. There were just a few stairs leading to a higher platform where she saw one dark brown office door and the team's briefing room. JJ gently knocked on the door and when she opened it, stepped inside first. Charlotte decided to wait for her turn and let them have their own conversation privately. Although it was not very private when the door was left open and Charlotte was standing right outside of it.

" Good morning, JJ. "

" Good morning, sir. Case files, " the blonde woman gave him the files she was holding. One was left in her hands and she looked at her boss. " Houston police called. They personally have asked for our help with this case, " JJ finally gave the final case file to Aaron Hotchner. It was her way to tell him that this one was important and they needed to look into it. Hotchner nodded and opened the file. " Also, Agent Winslow is here and she is waiting right outside your office. "

" You can come in, Winslow, " told the dark-haired man who was sitting behind his desk. Charlotte took a few steps and she was already standing inside Hotch's office, looking at the man she saw two weeks ago. " JJ, tell them to be in the briefing room in 10, " JJ nodded. She smiled at Charlotte and left Hotchner's office, closing the door behind her.

" Good morning. I would like to officially welcome you to our team, " Hotch stood up and extended his arm. " We are very happy to have you here. "

" Good morning and thank you, sir, " Charlotte reached his desk and shook his arm. He grabbed a gun and a badge from his drawer and held out the items to her. Her hands were a little shaky when she took them, but it felt good and very official. She was officially a member of BAU and it felt really great.
