THE MASS GRAVE

'I''I''I''I''I''I'

WHEN CHARLOTTE WOKE UP THIS MORNING, SHE DID NOT KNOW THAT ONE HELL OF THE CASE WOULD BE WAITING FOR HER AND HER TEAMMATES. The last few days were hard, trying to find out who was killing inmates in  San Diego's Metropolitan Correctional Center. The team came back home yesterday and Charlotte was secretly hoping for a calm day to do the pile of paperwork on her desk. She should know better that having a peaceful day in the BAU was rare. Today was not an exception.

" We have a case, " JJ informed them while running past their desks with case files in her hands. Charlotte let out a sigh. She just sat down at her desk and they already had a new case. Charlotte stood up and followed her teammates to the conference room.

" Baltimore PD called. They've found a mass grave, " JJ started to speak when they all sat down around the table and turned on the TV to show the photos of the scene. Charlotte scanned over the images on the screen.

" They called us about bones? " Derek said, furrowing his eyebrows when all he saw in the photos were bones in a large hole.

" No. Baltimore PD found three victims in this grave who were recently buried there. They think that two of them were buried one week apart and the third one only two days ago. The medical examiner is examining the remains right now and soon we will know more, " JJ answered to Derek's question.

" They are still searching and finding remains. Baltimore PD asked for our help to catch the killer. Right now it looks like a job of the same UnSub, " Hotch added.

" I know someone I could call to help us, " Charlotte spoke up when she scanned over the case file one more time. A massive grave full of human remains. Only three bodies are still intact. The rest of them are just bones. Charlotte knew that she needed to make that call. The BAU would need every help they could get for this one.

She raised her head to look at her teammates when she did not hear anyone. Everyone was looking at her with confused and questioning looks. She let out a sigh and closed the case file.

" I know someone at the Jeffersonian Institute. She is a friend and the best forensic anthropologist in her field of work. Give her those bones in the grave and she and her team will tell you how that person died, how he or she looked, where that person was living before their death, et cetera. But the most important part is that she would tell you who is the killer, " Charlotte explained. Hotch gave her a nod and she stood up. Grabbed her case file and found the right number in her contacts. She was already out of the conference room when the person on the other side of the phone answered.

Charlotte put on her sunglasses when she climbed out of the SUV and took a look around, searching for a familiar face. Gideon and Elle went to the medical examiner's office, hoping for more information on those three victims. Other remains were left untouched by the request of the BAU so Charlotte, Hotch, Reid, Morgan and JJ drove to the crime scene in Baltimore to take a look around and meet with Charlotte's friend who could help them.

" Brennan! " Charlotte shouted when she spotted her friend who was already in her suit and ready to get her hands on those bones Baltimore PD had found. " Let's go, " she told her teammates and all five of them started to move towards a person Charlotte called Brennan. After she called her about the case and asked to meet them here, Charlotte told Hotch about who her friend was and what her speciality was. So, only Hotch knew what he needed to know. The others did not know who this person was. Well, they knew the fact that she was working with bones.

" Hello, Charlotte, " the woman greeted her friend with a small smile on her face, trying to hide her excitement for this case. Why should not she be excited when there were a lot of bones waiting for her?

" Hi, Tempie, " Charlotte smiled and then looked at the two men who were standing right beside her bone friend. " Oh, you brought Booth with you! Hi, I'm SSA Charlotte Winslow, " she extended her arm for the man to shake.

" SSA Seeley Booth, but you already know this, " he said when he saw her small smile. Charlotte nodded and Booth shook her hand. " It's nice to actually meet you and put a face to the name from the stories Bones has told. "

" Likewise, " and then Charlotte turned her head to the curly-haired man who just finished shaking hands with Charlotte's teammates. " And you must be Hodgins. "

" Yes, I am, " he smiled and then looked at Brennan. " You are talking about us? " his voice had a hint of teasing and he had a small smile on his face. Brennan rolled her eyes, grabbed her friend's elbow, put her hand around it and started to walk in front of everyone.

" Booth heard our conversation and wanted to tag along, " Brennan explained to Charlotte. " I wanted to leave him at the Jeffersonian but we didn't have a case for a few days and he was getting restless. "

" It's okay. I think it would be nice to have one more opinion on this one, " Charlotte said at the same moment they reached a large hole, surrounded by different people from law enforcement. Derek went straight to talk with the sheriff and Reid started to look around and make notes about the place. JJ went to talk with the journalists who were getting restless and Hotch answered his ringing phone. Temperance Brennan and Jack Hodgins put on their gloves and started their examinations, leaving Charlotte and Booth standing there and doing nothing.

Charlotte found a pair of gloves in her pocket and put them on. She slowly and carefully made her way to the hole and took a look around. Hodgins was taking dirt samples and doing his thing. Brennan was squatted by the first remains, looking them over. There were so many remains... Charlotte squatted by the ones who were the closest to her and started to do her own examination. This is going to be a long day and one hell of the case.
