Halo
Max lead us to the control room, where all of the drivers connect to the avatar's. Two pods had opened up, one right next to us and one on the other side of the room. "Grace Augustine is a legend. She's the head of the Avatar Program, and she wrote the book I mean literally wrote the book on Pandoran botany." Norm said, a smile on his face. "Why is that because she likes plants better than people?" I asked, I had read her book before, learned the language before I even knew what the avatar program was. They laughed, the redheaded woman coming out of her pod.
"Where's my goddamn cigarette? Guys! What's wrong with this picture?!" She said, hanging head low as another lady scientist handed her a lab coat and a lit cigarette. Max lead us over to her, with a smile though Dr. Augustine seemed rather sour to see us. "And here she is, Cinderella back from the ball. Grace, I'd like you to meet Norm Spellman, Halo Rodriguez, and Ja --" Dr. Augustine was quick to interrupt. "Norm, Halo I've heard great things about you both. How's your Na'vi?" She asked, Norm taking a second to figure out what to say. "Awvea ultxari ohengeyä, nawma sa'nok lrrtok siveiyi." He said, which translated to 'may the all mother smile upon our first meeting.' A little to formal but ok, Grace smiled and responded. "Tsun tivam. Aylì'u ngian nì'it skepek lu." She said, which translated to 'Not bad. You sound a little formal.' I wondered off, no longer interested in the conversation.
I wondered around the circular room, ending up in the back of an older woman. "Oh careful there, don't want you getting hurt." She said, turning around a smiling. It was here, the woman i had only seen in pictures. "Sa'nok..." I said, way i said it in Na'vi i dont know i think Grace asking how our Na'vi was still stuck in my head. Sa'nok translated to 'mother', the woman's face immediately changed. She raised her hands to hold my face, her gaze softened. "Halo, my sweet baby girl... You're so beautiful, I am so sorry that I missed it." What had she missed? Karl's funeral, well more like incineration.
No more was said we just hugged, it was a long awaited hug and we had no intention of letting go anytime soon. I cried honestly, i had woken up so many times just wanting the embrace of my mother, and now i finally have it. "Woah, whats going on over there?" I heard Norm ask, i made no effort to answer i just continued to hold my mother and cry. "Leave her, she's having a moment with her mother." Max replied, walking away, Jake and Norm following after him.
After what felt like forever, of course it was only 5 minutes, we let go. She whipped my off, running her hands up and down my shoulders. "I have to get back to work, if you want you can shadow me until we have to get to sleep." She said, her smile softer than before. I nodded, she smiled handing me a mask and tell me to follow her outside. The mother daughter bonding i had waited for was finally about to happen.
