Halo

The Colonel had requested to see me and Jake, which was honestly very terrifying. This man is even from afar is terrifying, i can't imagine what he's like up close. When we got the room he was in, he was lifting weights. "You wanted to see us, Colonel?" Jake asked, meanwhile im over here shitting my pants cause if I piss this guy off, im as good as dead. "This low gravity makes you soft. You get soft, Pandora will shit you out dead with zero warning." He said, placing the weights back on the rack and sitting up. "I pulled your record, Corporal. Venezuela that was some mean bush. Nothing like this here, though. You got heart kid, coming out here." He said looking Jakes direction.

"Well, I kind of figured it was just another hellhole." I spaced out, just blindly following Jake when he started moving. At some point however, Colonel finally addressed my presence. " As for you, Rodriguez. Your mother does some mean recon work out on the field." Why is he in a meg suit? Why is this man in a meg suit? "Well my mother is a very intelligent woman from what i have gathered... I mean she did give birth to a child who learned the Na'vi langue before she even knew what he program was." I responded trying to ignore the meg suit. "I understand you had brother who sadly passed, about 8 years ago?" He said, trying to make conversation.

I was a little ticked off he mentioned my brother, but not like i can question him! MOTHER FUCKER HAS ON A MEG SUIT!!! "Yes sir, he had kidney failure of unknown causes. We thought our mothers insurance and benefits from the program would be able to cover his treatment but no matter what i did it never worked. What little treatment i was able to pay for was paid out of my own pocket." I explained, the Colonel's face changed from one of stern professionalism to one of sympathy that seemed forced. "Im sorry no one told one Ms. Rodriguez... Your mother's benefits were only meant to cover her if she ever got hurt."

"What?" I asked trying to make sure I heard him right. "That is correct, they were only ever meant to cover your mother if she ever got sick or injured." Tears came to my eyes, i wasn't able to save my brother... because i was never told that the insurance and benefits wouldn't cover either of us. I walked away, needing a place that was quiet where i could try not to have a mental breakdown. It was already to late.

I slid down the wall, covering my mouth with my hand. Tears slid down my face, it was like my whole world just shattered in an instant. I should've known they wouldn't cover his treatment, they were her benefits. If i had known that before i would have tried harder to pay for his treatment. I heard footsteps coming down the hall, feeling embarrassed i tried to stop the tears from falling. This was unsuccessful, cause Grace had soon turned the corner and saw me curled up on the floor, crying.

"Well im not sure whats going on here, but i assume that what ever it is must be bad." She said sitting down next to me. I whipped my face of and sniffled before turning to look at her. "Did you know? That my mom's benefits were only meant to cover her?" I asked, not as a way to blame her but just so i knew if somebody else did know. "I did, but at the time you were only a new born and your brother was 16. You two were both in perfect health."

Grace patted my shoulder as i whipped the rest of the tears from my face. "If we had known either of you would get sick and if it was possible to put a baby in cryo we would have brought you both with us." She reassured me, i nodded feeling better. I sniffled, taking a deep breath. "We have an assignment, Colonel wants us to go do recon out in the field. Norm, Jake, You, and i are gonna have to link up with our avatar's... Ok?" She said, standing up and offering a hand to help me up. I nodded grabbing her hand, and standing up.
