Chapter 14

The next morning, Lieutenant Lee had given an order to everyone and divided them into two groups. "This is a sphere detector." He then handed the detectors to Yoo Jung. Tae Man, who had been standing right beside Yoo Jung asked, "Does it detect spheres?" Min Ha shook her head. The level of his stupidity was unreal. So Yoon couldn't take it anymore, snapped, and smacked his arm. "He just said it's a sphere detector. Why do you think it's called that?"

"Sir, this is a prototype, right?" Min Ha asked Lieutenant Lee and at the same time, she wanted to show off her intelligence (she's not really intelligent, it was just knowledge she got from watching the show). "You're right. It isn't perfect yet so don't rely on it too much." Woo Bin replied to her question. Young Shin asked about the radius that the detector could detect. "It's 1 km in open areas. In the city of villages, it'll only be 500 and 700 meters. So, always be alert!" Everyone answered him loudly with, "Yes, Sir!"

They all gathered around Yoo Jung, curious about the device in that girl's hand. They were all captivated by the device until Tae Man asked a very dumb question. "Why isn't it detect anything?" Min Ha groaned and smacked his head. "This device should detect you." Tae Man looked at Min Ha confused. "Why me?" Min Ha stared at him blankly before replying, "Cause you are more dangerous than the spheres." Tae Man gasped, shocked by Min Ha's reply. "It is because of my handsome face?" Min Ha shook her head. "No, it's because of your stupidity. Your stupidity kills me." Before Tae Man could say anything, they heard Lieutenant Lee call for them. "Three minutes until we leave. Divide into your squad and get in the vehicle." Min Ha tried to calm herself down. This was it. The war would now begin.

They had arrived at the area they were supposed to inspect but there were many cars parked at the entrance which made them need to proceed with the search by foot. Min Ha was walking through the street with Young Hoon. It felt weird for her to see Young Hoon on this mission with her as in the drama, he was the first to be dead. "I'm glad you are here, Young Hoon." Young Hoon looked confused at her randomness. "Why? Am I supposed to be dead?" Young Hoon raised his brow at Min Ha, waiting for her answer. "No, of course not. After all that had happened to us, I just feel happy that all of us are still alive and doing this mission together. Don't you?" Young Hoon nodded, also feeling grateful to be alive.

They both stopped their track as they heard screaming and banging. They quickly walked toward the source of the sound and found Hee Rak who was trying to hide the vending machine behind him, scared that someone would steal it from him. Lieutenant Lee then asked what happened and Hee Rak brushed it off before he hit the vending machine as Lieutenant Lee walked away from there. There was a clanking sound coming from the vending machine. "Look what I got." Hee Rak showed his cola to everyone. So Yoon and Joon Hee were begging him to share but he refused.

"Lieutenant." Young Shin showed his detectors to Lieutenant Lee as his's was beeping. Lieutenant Lee called Il Ha to see if his detector also detect the same thing. "What's its location?" Young Shin then replied, "It's 300 m to the southwest." They all were moving in that direction when they arrived at a small alleyway. Lieutenant Lee saw a toy car and took it. He started the toy car and threw it at the center of the alleyway to lure the spheres. At that instant, the spheres came out and moved toward them.

"Hold your fire!" Lieutenant Lee raised his palm. Everyone was readying themselves to shoot, waiting for Lieutenant Lee's order. "Open fire!" They all started to shoot in every direction that the spheres came from. Min Ha who was bad at shooting somehow missed all of her targets. She was hopeless at that point. It was her luck that the one beside her was Jang Soo and Young Hoon. Both of them were not the best but still could shoot those fast things. "Stay in position and fire!" Lieutenant Lee shouted.

They kept on firing when suddenly the spheres backed away from them and went to hide. Everyone then stopped shooting and seems confused by the sphere's behavior. Lieutenant Lee slowly walked toward the alley, trying to check those spheres as Na Ra and So Yeon covered for him. They waited for a few minutes before they heard Ha Na's scream. "Behind you. Behind you!" She pointed at the sphere that was moving fast toward them. The others who saw this quickly shot the sphere but no one hit it. The sphere then moved inside the car and was trapped in it. Lieutenant Lee who saw that opportunity climbed up the roof of that car and shot at the sphere. "Are you okay?" Min Ha heard Jang Soo ask her. She nodded her head. "I'm fine. It's just that I can't shoot a single thing. Am I really that bad?" Jang Soo smiled at that and pat her head. "It's okay. I will teach you later." Min Ha scoffed at him. "Take your positions and search your surroundings. Back to your position!"

Min Ha was paired up with Jang Soo and they were given a task to search for one of the houses. They were outside the gate of one of the houses and both of them could hear Hee Rak and Soo Yi beside them, debating on who was going to enter the house first. They both sighed as Jang Soo gave a signal for Min Ha to follow him. Jang Soo proceeded to open the gate before entering it. They checked every part of the house and found nothing at all. "Let's check another house." Jang Soo said and Min Ha agreed, following him closely from behind. They had checked a few more houses and found nothing. They went back to where the others were and saw three new survivors there.

"Who are they?" Jang Soo asked Il Ha. "Survivors from another school." Min Ha watched the girl who crouched, looking traumatized in front of them. Poor girl. Lost all her friends due to this war. Min Ha subconsciously held on tightly to Jang Soo's uniform sleeve. Jang Soo noticed her action, grabbed her hand, and held it tightly in his, trying to comfort her. Min Ha became aware of the action and could feel her heart beating faster she was almost sure she could get a heart attack but she just let him hold her hand. It's an opportunity to hold a guy's hand and surely she wouldn't waste that opportunity, right? Besides, it's Jo Jang Soo. Who didn't want to hold his hand? (Everyone could agree that Min Ha was fangirling right now, right? Even if she tried to deny it).

They heard a scream coming from the new girl after all that lovey-dovey scene. "Don't step on her!" Ae Sol who notice she had stepped on one of the corpses apologized after that. Min Ha sighed at the scene. That girl would give them a hard time.
