Chapter Two: RUN!
I can tell that Gahiji is shocked, I can see that he is surprised, but he doesn’t know what do to, so he just makes another wall of fire around us. This time the heat is more intense, the fire is so hot! I can feel my skin tightening at the heat, my hair begins to fly from the hot hair spiraling around us, but my eyes are more fiery then the fire itself. I am sick of Gahiji doing this; I am going to stop him. I have to get rid of this fire, so I push my hands down again, and the fire spreads out away and disappears. I don’t use my powers often, if at all, this kind of feels amazing.
“How are you doing that?” I’m snapped back to reality with Zilindo’s comment, shock is evident in his voice.
“I have my secrets.” I reply with a shrug, but I need to remain steady.
“You’re a...” Gahiji starts, apparently unable to finish his sentence, he also must be infuriated by this revelation that I am a Gifter because he tries one more time to create an even taller wall of fire, stronger and more powerful. Okay, I’m tired of this, I’m going to make him stop. I push the fire down again. Oh no, the fire is to strong! I can’t control it! I try to stop the fire, but it races towards Gahiji. I watch in horror and guilt as the fire burns towards Gahiji and pushes him over. His scream of pain fills my ears, my heart rips out and falls to bits in front of me. Gahiji holds his hands, that I had burned, against his stomach and winces in pain. I am in trouble now, the only rule for a Gifter is that they can’t use their powers against another Gifter. I had just broken that rule even though no one really knows I was a Gifter.
“You’ll regret this.” Gahiji snarls, seething through his teeth. I can’t say anything; I am in shock, surprise, and terror. I can’t do anything but stand there and tremble. Gahiji stands up, stumbling and cringing in pain, his hands red and blistering from the burn.
“Fina!” Zilindo yells shaking me back to reality, “RUN!” He commands me. I don’t know what comes over me, but I take off, as fast as I can, and run. I don’t know really what I am going to do, my mind is blank; but I have to get out of here before I am arrested. I’m really in trouble now. My whole life flashes before my eyes, everything about my life is about to be ripped away. If I’m caught. Not only are people going to be mad that I didn’t tell anyone I was a Gifter, I just broke the most important rule in the country, I had hurt another Gifter with my own powers. I can’t run away from this forever, but I have to, I need to try. I’m to scared not to. I’m to young to go to jail, I’m only 18! Ok, not to young but I really don’t want to go, I didn’t really do anything bad, I was just protecting Zilindo, and myself. It was an act of defense, but at the moment as I am running through the streets towards my house, and I don’t think my intensions or reason matter. I don’t know what I was going to do once I get home, but I need to figure something out. I come to the gate and stop, sort of, I’m running in place a little. The black metal twisting and turning into the sky, once was a protection. Right now though, as I wait for it to unlock and open, the metal seems to be lurching down at me, accusing me, swallowing me. It slowly creaks, yelling at me as I run through and up the cobblestone path up to our house. My home, as it has been for the last 16 years of my life. The four stories of ivory house, with red trim around every window, the black spiked roof pointing viciously into the sky. Some maids look down in confusion from the walkway of the third story, as I run into the round circular opening of the house.
“Fina!” My personal maid says, surprised at my sudden entrance, “I didn’t think you would be home so early.”
“Uh... yah, I um... I have to go.” I stumble on my words, franticly thinking, panicking. My maid picks up on it rapidly.
“What’s wrong Miss?” She says as I prance in place, my eyes dart around, hands trembling.
“I need you to come with me right now.” I say and grab her arm. Pulling her behind me and run up the stairs to the second floor and towards my room.
