After Gahiji left I had to tell the whole town the truth…again. I kind of shouted it all out when I was fighting with Gahiji. To say they were surprised would be an understatement. They were floored. To realize they have had a Red Nation girl in their midst for a while was shocking. When I told them again how I had pretty much saved their lives they were silent, completely silent.

“You…saved our lives.” One woman says and holds her child close, realizing that meant her child’s life as well.

“Yah.” I nod. “I loved the fact that you all welcomed me in to your village. I wanted to protect you all.” I am quiet. What now, they all know about me. No doubt Gahiji will be back to get me and bring me home. Will they protect me?

“We will return the favor then.” An older man, an elder, speaks up. Really? Their going to protect me? “When they come back, if they try to take you we will protect you. As far as we know you are a White Land girl. We will protect you.”

“Thank you.” My voice wobbles. Mazin puts a reassuring hand on my back. These people…they are so amazing.

“We’ll protect you.” Mazin echo’s. I know, I know. Still, my heart pounds nervously, incessantly. Calm down Fina, calm down.

How long would it take for them to show up? We knew they were coming, so how long would it take. I figured, Gahiji had to return, tell everyone, they freak out and put together a group to come get me. So it should probably only take a little over two weeks. Two weeks, better make the most of it. I need to go see Volcana. I don’t know if it’s the right time to introduce everyone to her though so we’ll just stay in the mountains.

It takes me an hour to get up there and for her to come to me. She knew I was coming. When I got to a clearing I found her waiting for me up in the clouds. She circled a few times before coming down to me. Gosh she’s beautiful. Her wings are so graceful as they swoop with every powerful push. She’s so happy to see me.

“Hi girl.” I smile and walk up to her. “So I see we are still friends.” I laugh and rub my hands against her neck. “I’m okay for now. Gahiji is gone, but he is probably coming back. So we have to be careful.” I sigh and sit down in the blowing grass. The wind is warm and blows my hair into tassels. Volcana seems to understand. She circles around me and lays down against me, her wings hovering above us, shading the sun and blocking some of the wind. So considerate, ha.

We lay there quietly for a while, just enjoying the temporary peace. I feel her strong breaths riase up and down under me, her body raidiating heat, it feels nice. It feels like home. She’s far from home, like me. This is my new home now and it can be her’s too. She made it her home, we are so much alike. I can tell she is like me, I guess I was meant to tame her. I wonder if that’s why she came here, if she was drawn by me being here. Interesting theory I have to say.

Volcana’s wings, they are so amazing. I know Mazin has told me what it’s like to sort of fly. He can lift himself up off the ground about 20 feet. Volcana though, she can fly anywhere anytime she wants to. It must be amazing.

“Do you like to fly Volcana?” I ask her, she purrs in response. I guess she does. Lucky. I wonder if she would…ever maybe…take me up with her. Could I ride her? You know, without falling off. Would she let me? I wonder.
