Chapter 13 : It all falls apart. It all comes together.
Raya tells me that Gahiji is going straight to the Dragnatis, but he’s coming through the village. I run over to the window and look out carefully. There at the edges of the woods is Gahiji. His black hair shinning in the sun, his dark eyes still focused and mean looking. He’s proud. Way to proud and arrogant. Crud…he can’t do it. I know right now that he can’t.
“Fina.” Mazin pulls me away from the window. “Stay back.”
“He can’t do it…” I shake my head. “I just know it. He can’t do it.”
Mazin walks over to the window and looks out. He says that the people are flocking around him. What a surprise. I bet they are asking him to do a fire blast or something. That would be something people here never saw. I was right. I hear a blast of fire and cheers. Show off. I guess he hasn’t changed. Still as cocky, still as show-offy, there is no way he could beat the Dragnatis.
“So…what do you think?” I laugh sarcastically. Mazin shakes his head. Not impressed.
“You’re stronger that’s for sure.” He sighs. “So are you going to follow him?”
“Yah.” I nod. “I’ll wait until he’s a little farther ahead and go after him.” I go over to my bag of Red Nation clothes. I…I need to be wearing these if I battle it. It would just feel right. Which clothes, who am I going to impress? Ha, does it really matter. I pull out a purple dress that has little metal bits woven in to make it sparkly. It’s a strapless dress that follows the curves of my body, and stops about mid thigh. Go behind my curtain and change into the dress with a pair of white tights and a long dark purple wide ribbon that I tie around my waist and knot in the front. It fall down to my knees. I need my decorations too, right? That’s how we look Red Nation, flashiness. I put over my head my golden chains, and my arm bands. I…I look Red Nation again. First time in a long time. What…is Mazin going to think.
The curtain is pulled back, and I step out to where Mazin is. He looks me over and smiles.
“You look…nice.” He smiles. “But if you go out there like that won’t everyone else find out?”
“Um…yah.” I nod and look out the window briefly. “He’s heading to the woods now.” My heart begins to beat quickly. Should I go? Should I wait a little bit longer? What should I do? I don’t want to loose him, but I don’t want him to see me.
“Here, wear this.” Mazin hands me a long white cloak with a hood. “So no one see’s you.”
“Thanks.” I nod, my heart momentarily calms down.
“How will you find the beast?” He asks me nervously.
“I think…it’ll probably find us…Um… I think I should get going so I can get there before it gets too late.” I say quickly without thinking. Am I going, really going? My feet carry me to the door, all on their own.
“Fina.” Mazin says quickly before I leave. I turn and look at him, he looks at me with worry. He walks over and hugs me tightly.
“Come back.” He whispers. “Okay?”
“Okay.” I nod. I walk out the door, leaving him there. Raya is somewhere, Moa, Azior. Will I ever see them again? I hope I will.
I follow Gahiji for two hours before we finally saw the Dragnatis in the mountains ahead of us. It see’s us, I know it does. The area Gahiji stops has a large flat plain of dusty rock with bushes surrounding the edges. This, this is where I’ll hide and wait out the fight to see what happens. I crouch behind one thick bush and watch Gahiji, 20 feet ahead of me. We hear a roar…here we go.
