The Key

As they sat there, tension thickened in the air, Chaeyun approached Mina. She knew the girl was worried sick and has been alone since the owner of the house they we're in was summoned by the police for an interview.

"Hey."

Mina looked up to her, Chaeyun sat beside her. "She's tough. She'll survive this." The weight of the situation overcame Mina, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. Chaeyun gladly open her arms to hold her, her shirt was dampened by her tears. It was not the first time they had found themselves in a hospital together while Chaeyoung received treatment.

A medical staff approached them. "We will need a person to fill out the form for the patient inside." Daniel asked Jihyo to come with him and so they can both better at registration to fill it out but Jihyo didn't have the strength to even stand up from where she was seated.

"Let me do it," Nayeon offered, rising from her seat.

"What's your relation to the patient?" the medic staff asked.

"I'm her aunt." Nayeon quickly replied. Jeongyeon also stood up beside her girlfriend. "Okay ma'am, please follow me. This way." And with that, they disappeared.

The news reached to the man she swore not to see again but now is hurriedly making his way to the family.

"Where is Chaeyoung?" his voice hoarse. Two body guards stood behind him, one gently pushing his wheelchair.

"She's inside the intensive care unit." answered by Daniel. He knew who the man was and wasn't expecting to see him.

The man let out a deep sighed as he closed his eyes, fearing for worse to happen. No one had the energy to let out emotional things to say they were eaten by anticipation. After an hour and a half, the surgeon, donning a mask and surgical hairnet, emerged from the room.

"Family of the patient?" they all gathered before the doctor, responding in unison with a "yes."

"I'm the surgeon who performed the surgery on the patient. A bullet was retracted from her abdomen, she undergoe an incision. Um, the bullet goes through her muscle tissues and she's required to stay her for 8-9 days. So we can further observe her condition."

The mother sobbed, her voice choked with concern. "Will my daughter be alright?"

"For now, she is stable. We ensured the removal of all bullet fragments, so her focus should be on healing and regaining consciousness." Relief flooded over them as they heard the doctor's words. "We will need to proceed with the billing process."

Jinyoung stepped forward to converse with the doctor. "I will handle the expenses."

"I can cover it. She does not need your money." Jihyo confronting his ex husband. "Let's settle this. As his father, I will take care of the costs. This should not concern you. I am doing this for our child, not for you."

"Now you want to play that role."

Daniel grew concerned about the direction of the conversation. He held his wife's hand firmly, their eyes locking.  "Hon, let him do this. Chaeyoung needed you more after this so let's not escalate."

Jinyoung didn't wait long to hear more. He approached the doctor to pay for Chaeyoung's surgery and upcoming hospital bills. He ensured that Chaeyoung had an entire floor dedicated solely to her; no other rooms were occupied.

Moreover, Jinyoung established a rule: Only family members would be permitted to visit Chaeyoung. Even close friends can't visit her. Not until she regains consciousness.

He hired guards to stand in his daughters hospital room to make sure everyone follows to it.

Respectfully, Mina complied with the guidelines set by her lover's father, understanding that she couldn't visit Chaeyoung. Nevertheless, Nayeon made sure to keep her updated, frequently visiting Mina's newly bought apartment for a few days to provide companionship.

She was also invited by the police to provide information regarding the man who harmed them on that fateful night.

On the third day, her brother arrived to offer solace upon hearing the news. Mina appreciate all their concerns but was always worried about Chaeyoung gaining consciousness as she hasn't waken up yet. Nonetheless, his brother gave her protection he insisted that Mina will be appointed by his trusted men whenever she goes out from now on.

Chaeyun yearned for answers, unable to find peace in sleep as her twin lay helpless in a hospital bed.

Driven by curiosity, she went to the house where Chaeyoung had been shot. The area was cordoned off with police tape, forbidding entry. However, Chaeyun knew she had to go inside.

With a qucik and quiet motion, she opened the gate and made her way in. Surprisingly, the door was unlocked, granting her effortless access.

Even though she was alone within those walls, she treaded cautiously, mindful of making any noise. Chaeyun spots the tainted carpet where her sister had laid.

As she was analyzing the kitchen area where it all happened she hears rustling from the other room. She slowly crept into the room she heard it from.

The door was slightly ajar, revealing a man intently searching for something. Chaeyun's initial assumption was: he was a thief seeking valuables. However, she quickly realized that all the other valuable possessions scattered around the living room remained untouched.

This was no ordinary thief. This is a person trying to find something. He saw the face of tall figure.

I've seen him somewhere. Her mind flashed back to when she took Chaeyoung home from Japan. The man stopped from throwing things on the ground. When he got up Chaeyun noticed a phone in his hand.

Her eyes widens in disbelief and step back a bit, she made a noise and in a hurry she fled the house from the back door.

Chaeyun's Point of View

That phone he got definitely leads to something and I have to think of ways to get that. I called my manager to pick me up since I took a taxi to go here, to be vigilant.

"I want you to stop at the nearest market I am in. I'll send you the location."

I walked cautiously. I wouldn't want that person to be following me, I'll need Mina to be on this. I called Nayeon to check up on Sana since i'll be gone for a while.

I've successfully taken my ride. I got to hurry and see Mina who knows she might be in danger from that man.

Arriving to her apartment, I rung the doorbell twice. She wasn't expecting me at all and confused as to why I was in front of her.

"Chaeyun?" she utter.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?"

"Come inside." she took me in and when I stepped into the living room there he was sitting comfortably with a coffee mug on his hand. He look at me, I put up a confused face.

"Oh and also i forgot to tell you my brother's here, he's just visiting."
