Gwen looked at his body, or rather looked at the body he inhabited. He could see it with its eyes fixed on the little balls. The smoke inside them was rotating normally, but time had slowed down to the point where one second took an infinite amount of time.
— It's really impressive. The magic of the In—Between Worlds is...interesting.
He thought for a moment about what he wanted to do. Finding the Weft would be a good idea but something was nagging at the back of his mind and it was when he looked towards the door that he made his decision. He wanted to see the female Cerberus again to...
Stunned, he looked around. With the speed of a thought he had found himself in the girl's dark room. He approached.
— Hey?
The Creature was lying down and breathing. But that was all. Having regained its human size and shape, the Creature seemed immense. He noticed again how thin it was and how bad its fur was. The creature was in agony.
— Hey, are you there?
The creature's belly seemed to ripple and the young woman found herself sitting in the creature. It looked at Gwen through the long hair that fell over its face. Gwen tried a smile and a wave.
— Hi. Uh... I... I'm Gwen.
The woman sniffed the air, like an animal. Gwen frowned.
— Can you speak? Can you... can you understand me? Can you see me? Can you hear me?
— Shut up!
Gwen took a step back from the assault. The woman continued.
— You talk, talk, talk constantly. You think too loud! You're hurting my head!
Gwen pursed her lips. This was not the kind of welcome he had expected. He crossed his arms.
— I'm sorry to worry! I thought you were ill or in danger or even a prisoner.
She smiled a toothy grin.
— You think you're a knight in shining armour? I've been here longer than you...well, you. Not the body you inhabit.
— You know Griffin?
— Ah, that's his name... he was already a vegetable when I got here. So what are you doing... here?
She encompassed everything in that word. Gwen looked at her. Like the Cerberus, she looked thin and sick. She hadn't moved from her sitting position in the Cerberus' body. It was a strange sight. Yet Gwen noticed that she was translucent at times as if she were disappearing. He licked his lips.
— The same as you. I inhabit a body that is not my own.
She held out an angular finger to Gwen.
— Wrong! This is my real body.
— You are lying! Melvan said that...
— The human! How would a human know anything about that?
— Hey, I'm human too!
— That's what I'm saying. You guys are pretty useless, well mostly.
She glared at him.
— I am a Cerberus. I can appear in any form I want, if I want.
Gwen pointed at the body.
— Then why are you lying here?
The woman gritted her teeth and refused to answer. Gwen sighed.
— Listen to me. I'm not your enemy. I'm the Partner of a Cerberus you know. He's on Earth with the essence of the demon I inhabit. There's been some sort of reversal. But what I do know about Cerberus is that there are three of them. That they bond with a human partner because the human anchors their magic and cancels out the magic of the Netherworld. I know that my Cerberus misses me as much as I miss him. I will do everything I can to return to Earth. I know I'm attracted to you because I know your nature, but I see you have a problem.
