The security men fired, but the silver bullets were vaporised before they reached their targets. The heat from the Cerberus made the air around them ripple. Tragedy was the first to reach the humans and with a powerful paw strike decimated their ranks. The fire system went off but the water evaporated immediately, creating a thick fog. Screams of pain rang out. Blood spurted out, tinting the immaculate fog scarlet for a moment. Flashes of light from the tasers occasionally lit up the scene. Grunts of rage and agony shook the air. When the system broke down and the fog fell, Tragedy collapsed under a vicious blow from the electric baton. The blue arc surrounded him for a moment, forcing his body painfully to tense up. Seeing this, Man, who was trading punches with another, finished him off with a headbutt before picking up an unloaded rifle from the ground. He ran towards the assailant of his Cerberus and struck him in a wide arc, the weapon on the back of his neck. The man fell to the ground. The Cerberus struggled to his feet, blood pouring from where his fangs had pierced the skin with electricity. He shook himself, making blood fly. He rubbed against his partner.
Meanwhile, Zia was casting spell after spell against the wizards. The four men finally immobilised her between two shots of magic. She screamed with rage, more than with pain. Blood poured from her forehead and she glared at the third wizard as he took his time casting a slashing spell. The spell landed on her arm and traveled up her arm, tearing the garment slowly. Zia held back from screaming as much as she could, but finally broke, the pain becoming unbearable. Then the man's head exploded as Agony clamped her large paws on either side of it. The other two wizards' grip wavered and it was enough for the young woman to turn them to stone. The fourth tried to run away but ended up collapsing under Griffin's bludgeoning with an electric stick.
The hall was a battlefield. Half of the guards were either dying on the floor or lying motionless in their own pools of blood. The other half were lashing out at the Cerberus and their partners. All were wounded. Griffin, smiling like a demon while his body was in pain. He loved it. This feeling of chaos where nothing had any logic and where true personalities were finally revealed. The pain radiated from his body but that didn't stop him from dancing like a ballerina, making passes with the two clubs he held, while two guards attacked him simultaneously. He hadn't felt this good for a long time. He could see out of the corner of his eye that Misery was buried under four guards who were relentlessly beating the Cerberus. He could feel the others in the bond around him, busy with their own fight. He knew they had won this battle. He pirouetted to dodge an attack and landed two blows with his staff that knocked out his two opponents as a loud scream rang out as the Cerberus rose to his feet, expelling his attackers in the process. His body was burning, the men were dead before they hit the ground. He was ready to fight again. Tragedy's voice made him change his mind.
— Go on! We're secure here. See you at the equinox!
Misery nodded towards his brother, trusting him absolutely to handle the situation. He and Griffin walked through the secure door that kept the tear in the Weft safe. The contrast between this room and the hall was terrifying. As the door closed on them, they seemed to leave the world. Soundproof, cool, dark... only the machines clicked and flickered, exposing the fluctuations of the Weft. Behind the double circle of magic that surrounded it, Misery and Griffin could see the moiré reflections of the void. Misery concentrated his power in his hand and burned the ground, erasing part of the protective circle. A sound like a monstrous heartbeat struck them. The rift pulsed, rumbled, buckled, and each movement generated a pulse, a pressure more internal than anything else. Griffin pressed his temples under the assault. Water dripped from his nose and then he felt Misery's arms around him.
— Stay here, Griffin. I'll go alone.
The demon sat up suddenly.
— No way! I told you, I know Myghal's domain. Just hold my hand.
