Today was the day.
Today, Satoru would get his daughter to laugh.
The past couple of months had been taxing. Feedings and diaper changes that served as a nice alarm every couple of hours through the night. Helping you get through postpartum. The seemingly endless visits from friends and colleagues that interrupted the precious gem that midday naps had become. Not to mention grasping the massive learning curve of understanding Sayuri's cues.
It was quite a lot.
But it was all worth it. Especially for today. Because Satoru Gojo would get a laugh out of his little girl.
It wouldn't be one of the reflex smiles that grew on her face while she slept or farted. It would be a real smile. With audible laughter, babbling, and eye contact. It would be cute and bubbly and an embodiment of everything good in the world. A milestone not only for your daughter, but for your husband as well.
Satoru would brag about this to you for months-no, years.
"That was a very stinky diaper, missy," Satoru chided playfully, tossing it into the diaper pail. Sayuri squirmed happily on her changing table, busy distracted by the floral night light that slowly rotated on the ceiling.
"All right," Satoru grinned as he turned off the rotating light to catch Sayuri's attention. Large, wondrous eyes landed with curiosity on Satoru, tiny fingers outstretched towards Satoru as she cooed softly. "Are you ready for a milestone, Sayu?"
Sayuri continued to babble, entranced by Satoru's pinky that she held tight in her hands until Satoru gently pulled away. He began with the standard spots, gently tickling and blowing raspberries on Sayuri's belly and sides, using the ridiculous baby talk he'd fully embraced before your daughter was born. For one giggle, he would pull out all the stops, with no regard for how ridiculous he would seem to an onlooker. All for one laugh.
That he didn't get.
Satoru let out a deep exhale as he allowed Sayuri to grasp onto his fingers once again. "You're one tough crowd, missy," he murmured, letting out a chuckle. "It's obvious where you got that gene from."
Your daughter merely returned soft babbles, excitedly kicking her feet as she played with the platinum band on his pinky.
"Not one giggle?" Satoru pulled his hands to cover his face for a quick round of peek-a-bo. Your daughter merely watched in bewilderment, amazed by the disappearing act in front of her eyes.
And then her mouth opened.
"This is it," Satoru grinned, sneaking in little boops to Sayuri's nose between his reveals. "Come on, Sayu. I know you can do it. You must've picked my wonderful sense of humor, right missy?"
It was a yawn.
"Am I boring you?" Satoru gasped in horror, wagging his finger in front of Sayuri's face. "You don't yawn when I'm trying to make you laugh, Sayu. That is poor manners. Unacceptable."
A slight frown settled on Satoru's face as he realized none of his theatrics would work. Your daughter just wasn't amused. "What baby isn't ticklish?" he murmured, shaking his head. "How can you not find me funny?
