Yakusari, a small community in Guyana, which is surrounded by lush, green scenery, was oppressively hot that afternoon. Through the thick undergrowth, the sun's sweltering rays penetrated, creating fascinating patterns of light and shadow on the village's dirt roadways. The aroma of in bloom flowers and the distant sound of birds filled the air.

A little girl by the name of Delicia lived in the center of this peaceful community. Delicia was only fourteen years old, a young age when the world teetered on the brink of uncertainty, and she discovered herself imprisoned by its tenacious hold. She was shy and introverted and found comfort in her mind's sanctuary, losing herself in the pages of innumerable novels that took her to exotic locales and strange realms.

However, Delicia's viewpoint started to change as the days turned into years. The shy girl who had always been secluded to her own thoughts gradually grew into a woman of unyielding independence and determination. Her experiences—both happy and difficult—shaped her into a formidable force.

Delicia had, however, experienced a dissonance within herself at a young age—a struggle that ate away at her own being. She struggled to identify it and was at a loss for words to describe the oddities that made her unique. Because she didn't cleanly fit the stereotype that society had assigned to her, she felt out of place and as though she were attempting to cross uncharted territory.

Delicia originally battled with her concept of self in the privacy of her thoughts. She was troubled by her persistent facial hair, which made her mirror image mock her. Each thread seemed to serve as a subtle reminder that she was unique and that her physical form was a lie. Delicia craved for approval, to be at ease and content in her own flesh.

But Delicia was worried by more than simply her appearance. Her menstrual cycle's unpredictable nature made her feel even more distant. When compared to her contemporaries, Delicia's body moved to a different beat as she experienced womanhood's changing rhythm. She felt alone and cut off from the common experiences that made up womanhood. Delicia struggled with the subject of what being a woman really meant.

She felt a constant anguish in her soul as the burden of confusion weighed heavy on her. She desired to navigate the maze of her existence and discover her individuality. Delicia's voyage of self-discovery would serve as a tribute to her fortitude and a probe into her femininity that went beyond traditional norms.

As the sun began to set and put an orange glow over the Yakusari village, Delicia set out on a profound voyage that would reveal the delicate fabric of her self-worth and give her the strength to overcome the difficulties that were ahead.
